BID ON ORIGINAL ARTWORK NOW!

As a charity, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists relies on the generosity of its visitors and supporters to help maintain the RBSA Gallery and continue its vital work. With no public funding from either the local authority or Arts Council, this 200 year-old Society supports itself through annual membership fees, artwork sales, exhibition entry fees, Gallery Shop sales, donations from local grant giving bodies, and donations from the public.

In order to generate funds, the Society is offering the public a unique opportunity to purchase original artwork at great prices in a blind auction. The postcards on display in the Gallery and online have all been created by RBSA Members and Associates and are currently in an auction on the Givergy website.

Visitors are invited to used this link https://rbsa.org.uk/event/rbsa-postcard-sale/ to visit the online auction site and bid on the piece/s they would like to take home. At the end of the auction, the highest bidders will be notified and will become the proud owners of a one-of-a-kind artwork, safe in the knowledge that they have helped safeguard the RBSA for future generations.

The auction closes on Saturday 12 September, good luck!

Running from 2 - 12 September is Next Generation RBSA 2026, an exhibition of work by 21 emerging artists hoping to be given the opportunity to receive a three-year free membership of the Society.

This programme evolved from the RBSA Graduates scheme, and now includes self-taught artists as well as those who have graduated from a university arts course.

At the end of the exhibition, the RBSA Council will select those artists to be awarded the title of Next Generation RBSA Artist. so keep an eye on the blog on our website for news.

There are just two days left to see our final heritage show of the year, Largely Unseen, Works from the RBSA Permanent Collection.

The exhibition is accompanied by the latest edition of Artefacts magazine in which you can read about the show and some of the works on display.

The exhibition closes on Saturday at 5.00pm.

Our participants are cutting some wonderfully detailed designs ready to print in our Lino Reduction Printmaking workshop with Jenny Mason-Gunning today.

There is still just over a week to see our final heritage exhibition of the year; Largely Unseen: Works From The RBSA Permanent Collection.

Two of the most stunning works in the show are by Norma Rhys-Davis RBSA who became an RBSA Associate in 1983 and full Member in 1989. Both paintings, Seascape, from 2003, and 3 Cliffs – Gower III, dated 1988, appear together, and have been delighting visitors with their dynamism and vivid colours.

In the Gallery are copies of the latest edition of Artefacts magazine which features an article exploring a selection of the works on display. Please have a read and take a copy to enjoy at home.

Our Cut and Fold: Exploring Paper Workshop with Clare Pentlow always transforms the Gallery into an inspiring and colourful space of exploration and experimentation.

Participants are guided through a variety of different cutting, layering, and modelling techniques, resulting in some beautiful creations. The progress made by each attendee is wonderful to see!

Today's workshop, Urban Sketching in the Jewellery Quarter with Ed Isaacs, has seen our group out and about on the local streets drawing the glorious buildings of the JQ.

With Ed's guidance, participants have been exploring the different aspects of the local architecture, whilst working hard to master the art of perspective. They even managed to dodge the showers!

Our baby pigeons, now named Roy and Al, are doing well! Mum and Dad allowed us a sneak peek earlier, they are very much the proud parents! All members of this little family have now earned the letters FFRBSA (feathered friends) after their names, not sure they’re going to appreciate their certificates though…
