🪑 Chair Spotlight: Spike Chair

The Spike Chair was created as the maker’s final piece for their degree at Brighton, which they studied for and completed during the Covid pandemic. This experience had a significant impact on the project. The chair represents stepping outside your comfort zone: while it may initially look spiky or uncomfortable, those who try it are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it actually is.

Made from chestnut wood and upholstered in black pleather, the chair was created with the help of the maker's late grandfather, an upholsterer, making this striking piece even more personal.

Unique and impossible to ignore, the Spike Chair is part of The Final Bid by Michael Pinsky.

Visit the exhibition to discover the remarkable stories behind the chairs, and even place your own bid. Every bid raises a chair higher into the gallery, creating a constantly changing sculpture while giving each piece the chance to begin a new chapter.

🪑 The Final Bid
📅 Open daily Sat 25 July – Sun 4 October, 11am – 5pm
🎟️ Free admission, donations welcome

The Final Bid was commissioned by the Draiflessen Collection, Germany. It is the first time this installation will be shown in the UK.

Kindly supported by players of the Postcode Lottery and Arts Council England.

Gut punching choreography and unflinching beats shine a light on the hidden story of HMP Woodhill.

Lyrically told in their own words, three families investigate what happened to their boys. What they discover is so haunting, it turns their world upside down.

Woodhill is an explosive true story by multi-award-winning LUNG and originally developed with The North Wall.

🌳 Final weekend to see Clare Hewitt: Everything in the forest is the forest

This is your last chance to step into Clare Hewitt’s remarkable exploration of trees, connection and community.

Working with a circle of twelve ancient oak trees, Hewitt uses sustainable photography techniques to capture the changing life of the forest, revealing the ways trees communicate, nurture and adapt.

The exhibition invites us to look more closely at the relationships found in nature — and consider what they might teach us about how we live and care for one another.

📅 Final weekend: closes Mon 31 Aug
📍 Arena Gallery, Midlands Arts Centre
🎟️ Free entry, donations welcome

Don’t miss the chance to experience Everything in the forest is the forest before it closes.
