Ryland Caravan is this Saturday!

Come and hang out with your fellow music lovers, as this year’s indie legends roll into MAC’s Outdoor Theatre. Co-headlining this year are the amazing House of Love and one of the UK’s most gifted songwriters Michael Head (from The Pale Fountains, Shack and The Strands).

The bar will be open and yummy food will be available in the Outdoor Theatre to keep you fuelled up. We wouldn't let our indie fans dance the night away on an empty stomach!

310 million years ago, the Black Country was covered by vast swamp forests - once part of a vibrant and interconnected ecosystem, these plants played a major role in shaping Earth’s carbon cycle long before humans appeared.

On display in 'Coal Forest Relics' are fossil specimens from the Carboniferous Period, including Lepidodendron ophiurus, Annularia, Calamites, Volkmannia, Sphenophyllum and Neuropteris, generously loaned by the Lapworth Museum of Geology, University of Birmingham.

Presented within Genevieve Robertson’s exhibition, these fossils connect deep geological time with contemporary questions around forests, extraction, fire, ecological trauma and the carbon cycle.

🌱Symposium | Everything in the forest is the forest: Photography, Connection and Ecology 🌱

Join us for a brand-new symposium this month, inspired by the values photographer Clare Hewitt observed among a circle of twelve oak trees at The Birmingham Institute of Forest Research. Presenting speakers concerned with creativity, connection and ecology, we will bring participants together through conversation, shared making and a communal lunch.

Clare’s practice explores themes of loneliness, isolation, community, and collaboration. Her project, Everything in the forest is the forest, takes inspiration from the interconnectedness of oak trees, and explores how we, as humans, might learn from the networks of kinship and care found in the natural world around us.

🌱Symposium | Thu 19 June | 9.30am - 5pm | £26.95 | Book now:

Curated by Clare Hewitt and produced with GRAIN Projects, UWE Bristol, and University of Birmingham.

Clare Hewitt's exhibition Everything in the forest is the forest is open daily until Mon 31 August | Arena Gallery | Free entry, donations welcome.

📣 Call out for artists: Surreal Creatures 📣

We’re excited to offer a paid opportunity to create work for a brand-new, free family art trail at MAC this Autumn.

Inspired by the dreamlike world of surrealism, we’re inviting artists from all disciplines to imagine and create bold, playful and unexpected works. Think fantastical creatures, curious animals and wildly imaginative beings - the more fanciful, outrageous and playful the better!

This year’s trail connects with our upcoming surrealist exhibitions and will transform MAC into a space of discovery for children aged 3+ and their families.

✨ We’ll commission 6 artists
✨ Each artist will create 2 works, or a small series
✨ Fee: £1000 per artist (inclusive of production + delivery)

We’re looking for ideas that spark curiosity, push boundaries and celebrate creativity in all its forms.

Deadline: 12pm, Wed 24 June 2026

Ready to bring your surreal vision to life? Apply now via the link in our bio.

Eid Mubarak to everyone in our communities celebrating today! MAC wishes you and your loved ones a blessed Eid filled with peace, health and happiness 🙏✨

For Eid al-Adha, we're looking back at this beautiful mural by Haseebah Ali, 'Garden of Paradise'. An original MAC commission, the pomegranates featured in the design symbolise one of Islam's heavenly fruits, while the tree and its blossoms represent MAC's surroundings in Cannon Hill Park.

Join us for a live onstage Q&A with ex-Dirty Sanchez star Mathew Pritchard about The Road of Excess.

A raw exploration of toxic masculinity, mental health, and what happens when the spotlight fades. The film follows Pritchard's attempt to row the Atlantic and asks the question - will it all be enough?
