Galerie Anna25

Landscape is the absolute core of Dirk Pleyer's painting. In his works, however, he does not capture existing places with photographic precision, but rather creates emotional spaces of memory and atmospheric moments of nature. His paintings thrive on a dense, multi-layered application of color and a fascinating interplay of light and shadow, which gives the landscapes an enormous depth and dynamism. In doing so, Pleyer always moves along a fine line between representational association and abstraction: forest structures, clearings, or bodies of water flash before the inner eye, only to dissolve into pure color and texture in the next moment. His landscapes invite viewers to explore their own perception and to discover entirely personal associations within them.

This space is complemented by a monumental work depicting a temple with 108 steps. Each step symbolizes a question about the meaning of life and death and invites visitors to physically and mentally retrace the path of reflection.

artist: Jinran Kim
serie: The Last Mattress
year: 2010
material: Natural pigments on canvas, silk
size: 230 x 100 cm
price: 4500 €

A golden surface, framed by dark brocade patterned with blossoms – at first glance, the work recalls a traditional Korean folding screen or an old scroll painting. Yet what is presented here is not a painting in the classical sense, but a surface: traces, discolourations, a quiet shifting from gold to ochre to brown that spreads across the entire field like a memory slowly fading.

In her series The Last Mattress, Jinran Kim works with natural pigments on canvas and silk, drawing on the Korean futon tradition – those padded sleeping mats used, turned, and passed down across generations, gradually absorbing the traces of a life. What appears here as an image is not a portrait in the usual sense, but an abstract one: the surface of an object that carried a body for years becomes itself a likeness of that life.

The piece remains restrained, almost silent. It shows nothing definitive, letting the stains and shadings speak for themselves: as what remains when a life withdraws and leaves only its imprints behind.

The precious brocade frame stands in quiet contrast to the impermanence of the motif – a tension between value and decay, between preservation and fading, that runs through the entire work.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who celebrated the opening of Dirk Pleyer's exhibition with us yesterday evening at Project Space KIMGO! It was a great, dynamic evening.
Through the interactive exchange ritual of the installation, there were plenty of opportunities for active change and direct conversations with the artist. It was fascinating to witness how the exciting before-and-after concept of the exhibition unfolded and visibly transformed right there in the room on the very first night.
We are thrilled about this successful kickoff and look forward to the coming weeks with this constantly changing landscape.

artwork of the week

artist: Alice Dittmar
title: Moon ,13.11.2021
year: 2025
material: Ballpoint pen on Alu-Dibond photo print, framed
size: 21 x 29,5 cm
price: 1500 €

Alice Dittmar's work combines photography and drawing into something entirely its own – a process as time-consuming as it is precise. Using a ballpoint pen, the artist covers the entire surface of the photograph with small, dense strokes. This fine hatching settles over the motif like a filigree web, lending the smooth photographic surface an unexpected, haptic depth.

The image shows a nocturnal scene above Berlin. In the right centre, the moon glows softly through cloud cover; in the lower left, the television tower traces itself faintly – a vertical, luminous structure, barely more than a sign. The palette shifts from deep, almost impenetrable black in the upper half to warm copper and brown tones below. The moonlight is broken and filtered through the fine network of lines – it holds its own, but quietly.

What Dittmar does with this method is profoundly temporal: every stroke is a movement, a decision. The photograph – by definition a fraction of a second – is transformed through hours of manual work into something slow. The camera captures; the hand lingers. From a fleeting moment, something lasting is made.

Date and place are part of the title – not as incidental information, but as a statement: this is no arbitrary moon. It is this moon, on this evening, seen from here.
