We are excited to present the upcoming solo exhibition Requiem by , featuring his large-scale room installations, following the success of his solo exhibition Fieldnotes at the gallery last year. Curated by , the exhibition opens on Friday, July 17, from 18:00 to 21:00. Welcome to drop by if you’re in Berlin!

With Requiem, Norman Maýn continues his exploration of the perpetuation of violence against non-human animals and of human (male) guilt. For the Berlin-born artist, the installation serves as both a rupture and a bridge; eschewing explicitly figurative elements, it challenges our intuition. What remains—despite, or perhaps precisely because of, the abundance of material—is a structure whose performative nature emerges from the dynamics of the visitors themselves. We are invited not merely to step into the installation but to trample through it; we trigger sounds and tensions, move against resistance, pe*****te the space, and become part of the shame. The installation is grounded in extensive research into architectural principles regarding spatial isolation, irreversible pathways, and exposure to violence. Maýn translates these concepts into walkable structures and material forms.

There are things we experience and sense that cannot be fully rendered in ordinary language or visual images—the longing for someone, the loneliness of a foreign city, or what lies beyond what the eye can capture when looking at an object: the time spent with it, the feel of it. The Untranslated brings together the works of two painters, You Hyeonkyeong and Linhan Yu, who seek to make visible through painting what cannot be wholly translated into any language or visual form.

Installation views of Topology of Loss ’s solo exhibition Playgrounds. On view until April 25.

Each work in this series begins with raw fractal noise and is put through a repetitive cycle of resizing and extreme JPEG compression. The codec, designed to discard visual information deemed imperceptible, starts producing characteristic block artifacts and distortions when pushed well beyond its intended range. After each recompression, a fresh layer of noise is reintroduced at partial opacity. Artifacts accumulate into a dense, fragmented image surface. Colour cycling and dithering are then used to animate the resulting image, revealing what the codec and rescaling leave behind. The series comprises both animated artworks and prints.
