Over five squares enjoyed Whirlaways Windup Dinner and Dance. Thanks to our great cooks for a fabulous well planned dinner, to all our visitors and to Trevor for a night of favourite singing calls! Congratulations to Charles and Darlene who were honoured by the Association for their 50th wedding anniversary! Happy Birthday to Franz and Dale who made our celebration complete! Our fall season starts on Sep. 11! Bring your friends to our Open House on Fri Sept 18!!!! Happy Summer everyone!!!!

Thoughts From Trevor…..

“The ripple effect... 42 years ago my aunt and uncle visited Winnipeg from the Northwest Territories to attend the National Square Dance convention. This resulted in two families you may have heard of (the Griers and the Hollenders) starting square dancing. This of course, eventually, begat two new callers (Ernie and myself). Just think how many people that one visit from up north affected!!

Fast forward to Saturday... Association Dance!! Fred (the caller I started dancing to) cued rounds while I was on squares. We went to a square dance and a party broke out!! 7 1/2 squares of laughing and singing dancers lit up the room... significantly down from 30 squares back in the day, but their enthusiasm was unmatched in my entire life in square dancing.

Got me to thinking... what if the ripple wouldn't have happened? Well, I for one am eternally thankful that it did!! Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that lifelong friendships would be formed on the various dance floors. You literally walk into a hall, and see people you haven't seen in forever, but it's clear that each and every one of them now count as family ❤ ❤ ❤️

To each and every dancer who shows up weekly at Whirlaway Westerners' Square Dancing Club , and to everyone who came out to the Association Dance, a HUGE thank you is in order... a caller or cuer is nothing without DANCERS!! We feed off of the positive energy... especially in our confused world... square dancing is a beacon of light to show what is possible when people from different walks of life come together with fun and friendship being the only goal!! Again thank you!!! ❤️🧡💛💚”

Thanks to everyone who made today’s dance such a success: Fred cueing rounds, our own Trevor for calling an amazing dance keeping 7 squares not only dancing but singing too, and the Association for organizing the afternoon!!! Winnipeg dancers are grateful for you!!!!!

It was a triple celebration! Four squares of dancers were dressed in red, white, black and green for our Canada Theme night which was held on a Black Cat Friday, so very close to St. Patrick’s Day! Made for a fun night!
