We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who joined us for our special evening with the VPD Mounted Unit.

A special shout-out goes to Sergeant Conrad Van Dyk and the officers of the VPD's Mounted Unit for pulling back the curtain on the dedication, psychology, and trust it takes to train these extraordinary horses. Vancouver is lucky to have you on our trails and streets.

We also want to share a deeply grateful thank you to the Vancouver Police Foundation. Their incredible support is what helped us turn our latest exhibit, Who We Are, into a reality.

Missed out on the event? Don’t worry! Come visit the museum to check out the Who We Are exhibit and discover more about the history of the folks keeping our city safe.

Today, we honour the memory of Constable James Archibald, who lost his life 113 years ago while protecting the streets of Vancouver.

In the early hours of May 28, 1913, the 27-year-old officer was patrolling a rash of burglaries on Powell Street when he intercepted two suspects. Outnumbered and caught in a dangerous situation, Constable Archibald was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty.

Thanks to swift work by VPD detectives, the suspects were caught within 24 hours and later brought to justice.

With just 13 months on the force, Constable Archibald’s courage and vigilance will never be forgotten.

Ever wonder how the VPD’s Canine Unit got its start?
This replica logbook from the 1960s gives you a rare look into the files of Vancouver’s very first police service dogs, including Sabre, a German Shepherd born in 1959 who officially began training in August 1962.

From donation records to tactical training notes, these pages tell the raw, real, and sometimes solemn stories of the dogs who paved the way for today's squad.
Come flip through the history next time you visit the Coroner’s Court gallery!

On May 8, 1915, David succumbed to wounds sustained in battle. He remains a poignant reminder of the many who traded their uniforms of peace for the uniforms of war, never to return home.
