The Federation of Canadian Artist is a membership-driven, not-for-profit organization, founded in 1941 by Canadian artist, one of whom was Group of Seven luminary Lawren Harris. The FCA is dedicated to provide
an opportunity for artistic growth, professional development and accreditation to visual artists of various skill levels, with the aim to promote and improve the recognition and professional

standing of practicing artists in the community and to stimulate public interest in the growth of Canadian culture. Our activities include workshops, juried and non-juried gallery exhibitions, print publications, critiques, demonstrations, special events, and much more. With over 2,400 members and 11 Chapters in Western Canada, the FCA provides a strong networking service for emerging and established artist, as well as everyone who appreciates art.

♦️ About the Instructor♦️ ⁠
Born in 1969 in Manitoba, David Shkolny (BFA, NSCAD 1992), has been painting landscapes for almost forty years. With twenty-four years of experience teaching, including painting holidays in Italy, he loves to share his experience working in the captivating medium of pastel. David’s studios are based in Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. His work can be found in international collections including the Canada Council. David recently placed first and was the people’s choice winner in the 2024 annual plein air competition in Red Deer, Alberta. He also placed first in the Rosebud Art Collective Paint Out in 2024. David is the first place winner of the inaugural Canada Paints Plein Air, 2025.

Artists feature their most breath-taking BC scenery and creatures. A portion of the exhibition proceeds is donated to The Nature Trust of British Columbia to support their conservation work.⁠

They are an open invitation into the heart and soul of the natural world, a reminder of the peace and tranquility that exists if we but look for it. ⁠

The workshop will also introduce pen-and-ink techniques that can be seamlessly integrated into acrylic painting to create rich surface textures. You'll explore methods such as cross-hatching, stippling, and ink washes to suggest weathered stone, cracks, and mineral details, including the distinctive mica found in British Columbia's granite formations.
