nization, CCBC welcomes all those who are interested in or curious about craft. Many individuals and institutions belong to CCBC - artists, teachers, scholars, collectors, gallery owners and professionals in related fields in British Columbia. Frozen Lavendula

Like lavender blossoms preserved beneath the first frost, Frozen Lavendula carries the softness of summer into the stillness of winter. Long, flowing caribou neck hair moves gently with the wearer, echoing strands of frozen light sweeping across the northern land. Amethyst gemstones bring a quiet sense of strength and spirit, while vintage beads hold traces of another time. Finished with golden cones and gold-filled findings, these earrings honour the beauty that remains, even through the coldest season.

This week’s highlight is Karole Doucette (Karole Doucette ) 👩‍🎨

Karole Doucette is a Vancouver Island artist whose work is inspired by the beauty of the West Coast landscape and coastline. With over 50 years of exploring different art forms and materials, she works mainly in acrylic painting and ceramics from her Red Boat Studio in Errington, BC.
Known for her colourful and expressive style, Karole creates functional, decorative, and sculptural ceramic pieces with a sense of whimsy and fun. Her paintings and ceramics both reflect her deep connection to the land and sea surrounding her home.

Pals & Kin | Paws Edition is a warm celebration of the animals who feel like family. Inspired by Alice, our sweet pal who has greeted visitors at the Craft Council of BC’s Granville Island gallery for over 15 years. This community fundraiser highlights the joy, comfort, and companionship our animals bring into our lives.

Throughout August, you’re invited to stop by the ‘Pals & Kin’ window installation, on display until August 31. Local artists have donated handmade works that honour the bond between people and their animal pals, and these pieces are available to purchase online until September 30.

Proceeds support CCBC’s community programming, with 10% donated to the BC SPCA.
It’s a tribute to the ones who sit beside us, greet us at the door, and love us without conditions. They’re more than pets. They’re our pals. They’re our kin.

Spend an afternoon exploring relief printmaking with artist Alex Montes as you transform a blank cotton tote into a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art.

You'll learn the fundamentals of linocut carving, experiment with hand-printing techniques, and leave with:
• Your own printed tote bag
• A reusable carving block
• The confidence to continue printmaking at home

This week’s highlight is Geraldine Rinkel 👩‍🎨

Geraldine Rinkel is a ceramic artist who has worked with clay for most of her life. After completing her studies at the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC, she moved to Kaslo where she established A Stone’s Throw Studio. She creates functional stoneware inspired by simple, classical forms with subtle variations.
Her work often explores handmade processes and natural influences, combining thrown and hand-built techniques. Inspired by her experiences working with traditional clay practices in Ecuador, she brings a sense of raw, organic beauty into her ceramics while creating pieces meant for everyday use.

Every masterpiece begins with the right tools. ✨

Behind every hand-printed design is a process of patience, creativity, and craftsmanship.

In this hands-on workshop with Alex Montes, you'll learn how to use traditional linocut tools to transform a simple sketch into a beautifully carved printing block. Along the way, you'll discover techniques for carving, inking, and hand-printing your own unique design onto a cotton tote bag.

No prior experience is needed—just curiosity and a willingness to create.

Upcoming Exhibition:

Finding Home Among the Floral Tuppies is a relational body of work by 2-spirit Métis artist Carly Nabess (Carly Nabess), grounded in stitchwork, kinship, and land-based practice. Centring the creation of tuppies (dog blankets), Nabess explores themes of reclamation, Indigenous joy as resistance, longing, and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge, love, and healing.

This exhibition acts as a love letter to Métis kin and a personal journey of reconnecting with tuppie-making traditions. Through these works, Nabess invites viewers into a space of remembrance, resistance, and belonging shaped by land, memory and care.

Finding Home Among the Floral Tuppies is a relational body of work by 2-spirit Métis artist Carly Nabess (Carly Nabess). The exhibition centres on the creation of tuppies (dog blankets) and explores themes of reclamation, Indigenous joy as resistance, longing, and the intergenerational transmission of knowledge, love, and healing. Each piece is co-created through relationships with ancestors, mentors, archival materials, and kin, including plant relations and Banjo, her dog.
