This is essential Black history that every single person should know!

Prior to the late 1960s, city ambulances were primarily police wagons with no medical equipment and no trained personnel on board to administer CPR or stabilization.

In 1967, Freedom House Ambulance Service was launched in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, training twenty-four unemployed Black men to become the world’s very first certified mobile emergency medical technicians.

Their protocols, cardiac care routines, and trauma triage methods set the national standard that every 911 paramedic unit in America uses today.
