These young crows were recently admitted to our care after being found orphaned.

Over the next couple of months, they’ll stay with us as they learn essential skills such as flying, foraging, and navigating the world on their own. Once they’re ready, they’ll be released back into the wild!

⛏️ Ladysmith Museum Minute | The Race for Safe Light

Before the Davy lamp, miners worked in darkness — or danger. One wrong flicker could mean an explosion.

This week’s Museum Minute takes you inside the fascinating race to create a safe miners’ light, and we’re sharing some of the incredible mining artifacts right here at the Ladysmith Museum that tell that story.

From carbide lamps to cap lamps, these objects represent real lives, real risk, and the ingenuity that kept miners safer underground.

Come see these artifacts in person and explore the history beneath our feet! 🏛️
