There are just a few tickets left for this event - celebrating the legacy of the late Scouter. Jean Gillespie.
Who was Jean Gillespie? Jean wasn’t just a leader in Scouting; she was the memory-keeper of our movement. Her journey began in 1953 when she walked into a gym to help with a Pack meeting—and she never looked back.
The Leader: She served as Akela for the 14th Kingston, a District Cubmaster, and the 28th President of the Kingston District Council.
The Historian: In 1987, she published "Scouting Kingston – A History," a monumental work profiling 41 local groups.
At this event, we are thrilled to host the Grand Opening of a new exhibit featuring Jean’s personal scouting scrapbooks—a rare look at Kingston’s history through her eyes.
📅 When: Wednesday, February 25 @ 5:30 PM 📍 Where: Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 560 (734 Montreal St., Kingston) 💰 Cost: $25 (Dine-in or Take-out!)

This week's look backwards into scouting history takes us to Gananoque in late November, 1917, where a Chief Thunderbolt instructed local boy scout troops in the importance of first aid preparedness. This article provides a fascinating glimpse into the interactions between Canada's indigenous people and the boy scouts, especially from the perspective of education.

According to this article, the Gananoque river froze over during this period, allowing scouts and other children to skate on the ice, and mirroring the wintry weather we are having in the same area more than 100 years later! ❄️
