A Two Dogs Company is supporting the artistic practice of artist Kris Verdonck and his companions.

BIOGRAPHY / KRIS VERDONCK

Kris Verdonck (born 1974) studied visual arts, architecture and theatre and this training is evident in his work. His creations are positioned in the transit zone between visual arts and theatre, between installation and performance, between dance and architecture. As a theatre maker and visual artist, he can look back over a wide variety of projects. The artistic practice of Kris Verdonck has developed and expanded in a very fruitful way over the last few years. His projects have been presented on stages as well as in museums in Belgium and abroad. This growth can only be consolidated if a small flexible organisation can follow up and structure the work on a permanent basis. Theatre is never made alone: it is no longer the work of one dog, but about the practice of several dogs that play together. That’s why Kris Verdonck has chosen a name inspired by Friedrich Torberg’s poem, ‘Spleen’: A Two Dogs Company. The company is structurally supported by the Flemish authorities and the Flemish Community Commission (VGC).

Between the mythical and the divine, and the physical, raw quality of the earth: this is the image of the exploited landscape that emerges in this exhibition. The ever-changing grey landscapes of 𝘔𝘈𝘚𝘚 #𝟤 acquire an increasingly ominous significance after a summer of climate disasters.

“𝐼𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑒 𝑛𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑖𝑡𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑓 𝑎𝑠 𝑎 𝑐𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑒”, writes the philosopher 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻. The consequences of the anthropocene might currently not be predictable but we know we will have to adapt and suffer the consequences of our self-created environmental disaster.

During WKND #1, 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗶𝗱 performed three poetic sound works, questioning what place remains for the human voice in a devastated landscape. Now only the landscape remains. Autonomously moving in a world free from human presence and influence. The end of mankind might not mean the end of the world.

Who or what are the new gods of our time? What are the protocols of power in 2026? In 𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑻𝑶𝑪𝑶𝑳 , four dancers embody the forces that shape our reality: 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑎𝑑 𝑃𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑛, 𝐴𝐼, 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑜 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑒.

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑎𝑑 𝑃𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑎𝑛 demands absolute belief. Populist, authoritarian and undisturbed by reality, power becomes performance. A game that must continue to be played.

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑜𝑝ℎ𝑒, an enormous, abstract force that confronts us with the power of Gaia. Greek goddess of the Earth, but also the idea that all living matter functions as a single organism.

𝐴𝐼 is a question of belief. It learns from human knowledge and interactions, simulating a model of humanity that might not even exist.

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑔𝑜 has become something divine. Individualism, social media and neoliberalism have made us our own gods, creating and performing our own image.

𝑷𝑹𝑶𝑻𝑶𝑪𝑶𝑳 is the newest production by 𝗔 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 / 𝗞𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗸 in collaboration with 𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗨𝗦 𝗘𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲. From minimal sounds, gestures and silence, they search for an overwhelming, intense climax. All media — dance, music, light and scenography — steadily move from zero towards a peak.

For this edition, Kris Verdonck brought together a striking combination of works by international artists, including sculptures by Lucy Glendinning and Edith Dekyndt alongside pieces by Hans Bellmer, Yoran Cazac, Yuzuru Shoji, Tim Theo Deceuninck. Rough materiality is confronted with more tender, elegant compositions, destruction with endlessness.

Kris Verdonck will present the poetic, moving landscape 𝙈𝘼𝙎𝙎 #𝟮, and spinning, floating rock 𝘿𝙀𝙏𝘼𝙄𝙇. Michael Schmid will be performing three sound works: 𝘗𝘐𝘕𝘎 (Samuel Beckett), 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮 (Alvin Lucier) and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘴 𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘺 (Peter Ablinger).

Who — or what — are the new gods of our time? What are the major political, technological, and sociological forces shaping our era and? How to deal with the protocols of power? 𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙏𝙊𝘾𝙊𝙇 seeks to be a ritual to conjure and confront these new gods, to give form to the chaos of our reality, through dance, music, costume and light.

𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙏𝙊𝘾𝙊𝙇 is a new collaboration between A Two Dogs Company / Kris Verdonck and ICTUS Ensemble. Musicians (Ruben Martinez Orio, Eva Reiter and Ofer Smilansky) and dancers (Mooni Van Tichel, Elsa Tagawa, Robson Ledesma and Magdelaine Hodebourg), play together with anticipation and escalation, in the middle of the dance floor. They move from minimal sounds and silence to an overwhelming climax that keeps growing, from elegant gestures to grotesque decadence.

Made to be performed in public spaces or large venues, the performance unfolds among the audience as a slow-burning crescendo, from silence and stillness to pounding drums and electronic intensity.

𝑫𝑬𝑴𝑶, an experimental shortfilm debut made by Kris Verdonck Blending elements of silent cinema, slapstick and contemporary vlog culture, 𝑫𝑬𝑴𝑶 constructs a world where the line between fantasy and harsh reality blur.

The Brussels canal zone is changing, gentrifying, the rough edges vanish. 𝑫𝑬𝑴𝑶 is both an absurdist portrait of an artist on the edge and a melancholic document of a city that no longer has space for certain, unemployed figures.

Days are dominated by an existential boredom, fought like any social media fanatic, by filming himself while performing stunts for an audience that doesn't exist. The performer's urge to entertain grows increasingly extreme, bitter, and dangerous. Pushing toward the absurd and the suicidal, though cartoon characters never truly die.

𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙂𝙀𝙎 #𝟮 Residency x iMAL: Winju, a non-binary Brussels-based artist whose work bridges sculpture, performance, and installation. Their practice merges organic and mechanical systems, exploring vulnerability, identity, and resistance, where irony and sarcasm become antidotes to the human condition.

Aigü is a dive into the paradoxes of care and control, where suffering becomes catharsis and order cracks open to expose its absurdity.

Winju’s work transforms medical and industrial aesthetics into absurd, malfunctioning machines. Raw therapy, an exorcism of inner and outer tensions. Their sculptures and installations simulate function while disrupting coherence, revealing the invisible dysfunctions of bodies and societies.

Follow their journey as they develop Aigü. A universe where the medicalized body meets noise, metal, and tech, generating tension, chaos, and dark humor.
