The Centre for Fine Arts aims to be a European cultural centre, anchored in the 21st century, with a novel and innovative view of society, a laboratory of ideas attuned to society’s current and future challenges. In the coming decade, Bozar aims to embody change, and contribute to seven major and evolving societal challenges. Sitting atop Coudenberg Hill, monumental and yet discreet, the Brussels

Centre for Fine Arts is Belgium’s major cultural venue. In 1913, Queen Elisabeth and King Albert I expressed their desire to build “a temple devoted to Music and the Arts”. Designed by renowned Belgian architect Victor Horta (1861-1947), construction began after the First World War. Upon returning from his stay in the United States, Horta abandoned his flamboyant, industrial Art Nouveau style for the more monumental and geometric language of Art Deco. Inaugurated in 1928, the Centre for Fine Arts is a testimony to this aesthetic revolution. For nearly a century, the centre has hosted the art world’s crème de la crème, and it is where most of Bozar’s cultural and artistic activities are held. FR

What brings us closer?

This season, we look to the past while facing the future with our heads held high. We rediscover composers and musicians, bring different voices and traditions together, and create space for new encounters.

Because the need to come together again - to reassemble - feels greater than ever.

Our Music Directors Aurore Aubouin & Jeroen Vanacker invite you to discover a season that is many-voiced, curious and full of connections.

"Through my art practice, I place the viewer in a position to reconnect with the earth through their bodies and remember where they came from." - Delcy Morelos in Art Monthly

- L'Echo

I am not me, the horse is not mine 🎠

As our first 'Grand Invité', we are delighted to welcome William Kentridge, whose transdisciplinary practice is a perfect fit for Bozar.

Every season, we invite an artist to help shape the programme: with an exhibition, but also by working with a new generation of artists. Kentridge is doing this with The Centre for the Less Good Idea, an artistic workshop in Johannesburg focused on the creative process.

In this interview, Colombian artist Delcy Morelos reflects on bahareque, an ancestral earthen building technique that informs her practice. Rooted in indigenous knowledge and shaped with local, bio-sourced materials, her monumental installation invites us to rethink our relationship with the earth, architecture, and the living world.

Free entry, as often as you like. Until 30 August.

Every year, Bozar invites an artist to create a site-specific installation in the Horta Hall as part of Bozar Monumental, The BNP Paribas Fortis Series.

Bozar Monumental is part of a series of artistic projects made possible with the support of BNP Paribas Fortis. We thank them warmly for their continued commitment to contemporary creation.

This event is part of the Studiotopia project, co-funded by the European Union.

You’ve probably already met her somewhere 👄

The face of our campaign comes from 'Be Nice To Me' by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist. She borrowed her name from Pippi Longstocking, a girl who explores the world in a playful way. The artist follows suit in this video work.

Rist presses her face against the screen in a seemingly childlike gesture that becomes an act of resistance. By smearing her lipstick, she subverts beauty standards and reveals the symbolic violence behind the idealized images that are ubiquitous in public spaces. With this silent scream, she confronts the advertisements and fashion photographs that glorify perfection and desire. Blending humour with discomfort, Rist critiques how the female body is constrained by the media and patriarchal norms – a poetic act of resistance.
