When a young woman moves into a new apartment building, she soon notices that she is being spied on and harassed by a mysterious person from the building across the street. Carpenter wrote and directed this unashamedly made-for-television homage to Hitchcock's Rear Window just before filming for Halloween began.

Chosen for the John Carpenter carte blanche, as it was one of the inspirations for Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13". Howard Hawks and John Wayne were so outraged by Fred Zinnemann's "High Noon" that they wanted to come up with a fitting response: Rio Bravo. A gang of heavily armed thugs surrounds a sheriff's office to free one of their own. Howard Hawks delivers one of his greatest films, an absolute benchmark of the Western genre, exploring his favorite themes: male brotherhood, the exaltation of courage, self-conquest and of course a touch of misogyny.

Every trimester, Patrick Duynslaegher chooses a film of his choice for every month. This time, the choice falls on the last films by three great directors, John Huston, André Delvaux, and Sidney Lumet, who ended their careers on a high note.

John Huston's last film is an emotionally intense, faithful adaptation of James Joyce's short story 'Dubliners', set in 1904. A group portrait of guests invited for New Year's by two old aunts. Huston offered his daughter Angelica one of the most moving roles of her career.

As the birthplace of some fantastic cinematic masterpieces, Scandinavian silent film grew into a major creative force in the early twentieth century. Drawing on the literary boldness and visual experimentation that would later define Expressionism, Danish and Swedish studios, with filmmakers such as Sjöström, Stiller and Dreyer, developed a distinctive cinematic language of their own. Their films first conquered Europe and then went on to captivate Hollywood.

This programmation traces all the way back to the early days of silent cinema (1909–1924), accompanied by live piano, it covers the birth of epic stories in which nature takes centre stage, as well as the emergence of the first international film stars.

A violinist in the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra is dismissed from his job by the bureaucracy of the communist regime. Burdened with debt, he is reduced to playing at funerals and, on the brink of ruin, even agrees to a marriage of convenience with a Russian woman, who immediately moves to Germany, abandoning her son. A little gem of Czech cinema.
