We’re looking forward to seeing this on Compass on ABC in a few weeks!
This is a new version of the original Six Views of Newhaven documentary that you may have been lucky enough to see when it premiered at Defiance in 2025.
Originally made to accompany the artist residency we held with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy in 2024, it follows artists Sophie Cape, Nicolette Eisdell, Pamela Honeyfield, Michelle Hungerford, Charmaine Pike and Ana Pollak on their life changing journey into the heart of Australia.
Desert Sanctuary, produced and directed by Kathryn Milliss ACS with cinematography by Anna Howard ACS & Kathryn Milliss ACS, follows this journey of six artists who spent seven days on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert, near the epicentre of Australia’s extinction crisis. At Newhaven Wildlife Sanctuary, set up by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, alongside the scientists and Warlpiri rangers, the artists find inspiration and hope - and a joyful solution to climate grief.
It’s a truly beautiful film so we hope you can tune in live to Compass on Sunday 7 June at 6.30pm or catch the replay afterwards on ABC iview.
So great to see this film continue to evolve and reach a new audience!
Ana Pollak’s current exhibition, Family Tree, based on the Desert Oaks of Newhaven is currently on at Defiance, closing this Saturday. And if you happen to be in Melbourne you can see the work from the original AWC residency at the Sofitel Melbourne until 17 June.
