Thienny Lee Gallery

Thienny Lee Gallery A boutique gallery and an inspiring space for contemporary art located in the heart of Sydney Eastern Suburb at Edgecliff.

Opened in early 2017, Thienny Lee Gallery has striven to provide an inspiring space for promising emerging to acclaimed established artists within the illustrious Sydney art scene. The gallery is fully committed to host exciting and thought-provoking exhibitions of contemporary artworks from the local and the international artists working across a variety of media, engaging a community of inclusiv

ity and respect amongst its visitors and exhibitors. Being one of the most promising art galleries in the eastern suburbs of Sydney (within Woollahra Municipality), Thienny Lee Gallery proudly contributes to the larger art dialogue of the city with its own unique voice. The Gallery Founding Director, Thienny Lee (PhD, MA, BSc), is both an artist and an art historian. As an artist, Lee has exhibited as far afield as The Netherlands and Singapore; being an art historian, she gained her MA in Asian Art and Archaeology from the University of London (SOAS) and was awarded a PhD by the University of Sydney in 2016. Lee has often been invited to give lectures in SOAS London in its MA and Post-grad Diploma programme as well as in Sydney University and various venues in Sydney in topics pertaining to art, Asian Art in particular. Her solid foundation in art, both in theory and practise, has profoundly shaped the gallery’s dynamic annual exhibition program that is driven by a vision of pushing boundaries, innovation and excellence. Originally from Malaysia, Lee’s long-standing passion for and professional association with contemporary art naturally extends towards countries in the Southeast Asian region. Thienny Lee Gallery is consequently a continuation and a transformation from her previous studio gallery, Alam Thienny, in Singapore. Lee’s curatorial approach seeks to reconcile the cultural variations and hierarchies that create division between Western and Asian Art. She draws connections between the contemporary experiences and expressions of artists between the two cultures. The Gallery exhibits the works of both diverse and artistically rich regions on an equal footing, celebrating the multiplicity of contemporary practice today – a combination that comes to characterise Thienny Lee Gallery’s dynamic annual exhibition program. In addition to fostering the professional development of artists through their careers, Thienny Lee Gallery also promotes engagement in art with the younger generation through its Kids Art Prize, in which its annual exhibition proudly supports The Smith Family Charity. The post above says it all 🙏but I can’t help to add a few more words… Some of you might have already heard that I struggle with my health at some point and it is time to let go & restore my health! It has been an incredible journey and I am grateful to everyone (you know who you are!) who has been with us in this roller coaster ride. And very grateful to hear so many hearfelt messages (personal or otherwise) that I do feel loved by the art community. Thanks for allowing me to share some of her beautiful words here. Sadhu 🙏🙏🙏
