Katie West is on display at as part of FUTURE COUNTRY - a Country Road + NGV First Nations Commissions exhibition 🐚

The national mentorship program pairs eight emerging First Nations artists and designers with established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives, presenting a unique opportunity to connect and share intergenerational knowledge.

Under the mentorship of Clothilde Bullen (Wardandi/Badimaya), Senior Curator and Head of Indigenous Programs at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Katie (Yindjibarndi) has developed the work ‘Shelia’s Dream’ as a reflection on her familial history.

She says: “The work stems from my attempt to locate my great-grandmother’s grave at the cemetery in the town of Onslow, Thalanyji Country … Like so many of the other Aboriginal people laid to rest there, she had no headstone … I spent some time gathering a sense of where Sheila was, imagining her life in this small town, and noticing the care given to the graves marked with baler shells and honoured with flowers.”

FUTURE COUNTRY will continue at the National Gallery of Victoria until 13 September 2026.

Congratulations to Catherine O’Donnell - selected as a finalist in the Wynne Prize 2026 👏🌟🏠

Catherine’s work ‘Postcard from home’ will be presented in the Wynne Prize exhibition, opening 9 May 2026.

Following the highly successful debut of her first major body of oil paintings last year, the artist continues to expand her compelling reinterpretation of Australian suburbia with a focus on fibro-clad houses in South-West Sydney.

Reflecting on her finalist painting, Catherine says: “My work encourages viewers to look beyond the surface, fostering renewed appreciation and imaginative engagement with environments that shape our collective experience.”

HORIZON 26 brings together Piers Greville and his nominee Zena Zada Cumpston in a powerful dialogue on landscape as a vessel of resistance ⚡️

In his new diptych, Greville depicts the ‘Accursed Mountains’ at the intersection of Albania, Montenegro, and Kosovo, layered with a cropped Napoleon from Jacques-Louis David’s painting. The work juxtaposes monument and environment, with the artist reflecting “the landscape is a learning space, and learning itself is an act of resistance.”

Zada Cumpston is a Barkandji woman with Afghan, English, and Irish heritage. On her exhibited ‘Return’ series, the artist say: “I have utilised my extensive research and learnings related to the plant use of my Barkandji/Kurnu people … ‘Return’ speaks to the abundance of Country and foregrounds layers of kinship, interconnection, and custodial responsibility between people, plant, and animal kin.”

This is the final day of HORIZON 26. Please note that the gallery will be closed tomorrow for the public holiday.

Dominik Mersch Gallery is pleased to announce Cobi Cockburn’s solo exhibition ‘Primary Lines’, featuring a new body of neon works that consider light as a material ⚪️

Please join us on Thursday 7 May from 5-7pm to celebrate the exhibition opening ~ RSVP via the link in bio.

In this highly anticipated exhibition, Cobi reduces her visual language to two elemental forces: light and line. Shapes through encounter, the works unfold as perceptual fields rather than fixed object operating as active agents - at once defining and destabilising space.

— PRIORITY ACCESS: Please contact the gallery via DM or email on [email protected] to register your interest and be the first to receive the catalogue.
