NOW OPEN | UNCANNY WAYFINDERS, group exhibition

JULIE RRAP has been a defining figure in a generation of feminist art in Australia, leaving an indelible mark with a powerful body of work spanning four decades. Since the mid-1970s, RRAP has created photographs, sculpture, performance, and video art that centres around the representation of her own body.

RRAP's 'Secret Strategies/Ideal Spaces' (1987) is a celebrated series of performative, photographic works created in 1987 based on her observations of French museums during her artist residency at the Power Cite International de Arts in Paris. This work serves as a critical commentary on shifting historical hierarchies and gender dynamics within art history. The 'Secret Strategies, Ideal Spaces' series emerged during the second wave of feminism, an era marked by questioning societal norms and re-evaluating women's roles.

A multi-spread feature article, COLOUR FIELD, in Look Magazine, explores SAVVAS' immersive exhibition, PURPLE HAZE, now open at Orange Regional Gallery.

"Atomic: Purple Haze is a shimmering landscape of purple, green and blue spheres, an expanded painting that breaks away from the canvas into three dimensions, like a pointillist explosion. The work recalls the purple fields of flowering Paterson’s Curse which Savvas says ‘blanketed my hometown of Canberra in the springtime during my childhood’.
‘After I moved to Sydney, whenever I would return to Canberra, I would know that Canberra was coming up because you’d see this intoxicating purple haze that would appear across the landscape.’ " - the AGNSW LOOK Magazine editor, Susannah Smith, in conversation with SAVVAS.

DESMOND LAZARO | Featured in ABC NEWS article


DESMOND LAZARO's remarkable paintings commissioned by AGNSW are highlighted in the recent ABC article on the current exhibition, 'Avatar: Forms of Vishnu'.

'Interlaced through the show are captivating contemporary responses to the stories of Vishnu, including a diptych by British Indian painter Desmond Lazaro, which hangs next to an ancient Cambodian sculpture of Vishnu. Together, they set a tone that is fresh and familiar.
Lazaro's representation of the iconic myth of the "churning of the ocean of milk" — where gods and demons played a heavenly tug of war to extract the elixir of immortality — reinvents Hindu art, where paint on canvas has never been traditional.' - quote from the ABC article, written by Bhakthi Puvanenthiran.

GUAN WEI | FINALIST, FISHER'S GHOST ART AWARD 2026


GUAN WEI has been selected as a finalist in the Open Category of Fisher's Ghost Art Award, Campbelltown Arts Centre.

GUAN WEI has a significant international reputation as a contemporary artist whose work crosses cultural and political borders, specifically between Australia and Asia. His 2024 work, 'Newborn', shortlisted for the award, demonstrates his consummate ability to create work at once light in tone and profound in message. Like much of GUAN WEI's prolific creative output, this captivating work explores complex social issues yet is underpinned by humility and a deep respect for humanity.

The Fisher's Ghost Award is in its 64th year, with over $60,000 in prize money to be won across a variety of artistic categories and mediums. Congratulations, GUAN WEI.

NOW OPEN | UNCANNY WAYFINDERS, group exhibition

MURRAY FREDERICKS’ highly-acclaimed Salt series commenced in 2003 and has seen the artist complete more than 20 trips to Lake Eyre–Kati Thanda in South Australia, living alone for up to five weeks at a time. Immersed in "pure space", FREDERICKS camped alone in the centre of the lake photographing a "landscape without landscape" for up to five weeks at a time. The solitude, simplicity and repetition of the days, created an approach that was integral to the production of the images. This series formed the now very famous early artworks based on the Salt Lakes in South Australia and became extremely famous and won over 12 international film awards for the short documentary called SALT, in 2006.

JANET LAURENCE | Spotlight in OCULA MAGAZINE

In 2022, LAURENCE produced a major public art commission, 'Cliff' at Curtin University in Perth, in collaboration with Event Engineering and Apparatus. The site-specific installation is featured in OCULA in a recent article, 'Earthly Delights', by the writer, journalist and critic, Neha Kale. The text explores the practices of various artists who use minerals to challenge technological acceleration, and positions LAURENCE's works alongside a lineage of other seminal artists including Ana Mendieta and Walter De Maria.

Kale discusses LAURENCE's clever consideration of the artwork's location, describing how she adorned the university wall with '150 specimens of geological material from Western Australia, a part of the country known for its history of mining, which is partly comprised of rocks formed more than three billion years ago.'

NOW OPEN | UNCANNY WAYFINDERS, group exhibition

At the heart of the exhibition is GEORGIA BOSELEY, recipient of the 2025 ARC ONE Gallery × Victorian College of the Arts Art Award.

GEORGIA BOSELEY is a Central and Eastern Arrernte artist and researcher living in Naarm. Her work documents the complexity and resistance of living as a First Nations person today. BOSELY creates contemporary sculptural works using traditional weaving practices, alongside large-scale paintings and ceramic sculptures. Her practice often moves across disciplines and materials, embracing mixed media as a third place, a space of experimentation.
