UPCOMING EXHIBITION | JARRAD MARTYN

ARC ONE Gallery is thrilled to present Lightning & Lullabies, a new body of exceptional paintings by Jarrad Martyn.

Marking Martyn’s first solo exhibition with the gallery, the exhibition brings together a series of evocative landscapes exploring his intellect for image, memory, certainty of place, visceral and assumed history, and the passage of immediate time.

Martyn’s paintings exist somewhere between recollection and reality. His breathtakingly beautiful landscapes are elusive, drifting in dissolving moments, with viewers looking to draw close and question what they are seeing.

We invite you to attend the opening reception on Thursday 12 November 6-8pm, which will include an artist-in-conversation.

FINALISTS: HONEY LONG & PRUE STENT | JOSEPHINE ULRICK AND WIN SCHUBERT PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD, HOTA


A huge congratulations to LONG & STENT, who have been selected as finalists for the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award 2026, for their mesmerising work, 'Siphon'.

At the centre of the work is the inherent mystery of holes. Here, that sense of mystery is found in the giant clam (Tridacna gigas), whose intricate patterns and colours come from the algae communities that symbiotically inhabit it.

Winners of this $25,000 acquisitive award will be announced to the public on the opening weekend. The exhibition platforms artists from across the country working across traditional and expanded fields of contemporary photography.

UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED, explores the cultural and emotional power of the colour red. Red has become a strong symbol for passion, desire, beauty, motherhood, and love, while also signalling celebration, power, revolution and vitality.

UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED includes artworks by PAT BRASSINGTON, The Estate of ROSE FARRELL & GEORGE PARKIN, LONG & STENT, DANI MARTI, MURRAY FREDERICKS, ROBERT OWEN, JACKY REDGATE, MARINA ROLFE, JULIE RRAP, NIKE SAVVAS, LYDIA WEGNER, GUAN WEI, CATHERINE WOO, JOHN YOUNG, and GEORGIA HARVEY.

LYDIA WEGNER's work, 'Red Loop' is featured in the exhibition. Working from her studio tabletop, WEGNER meticulously balances everyday materials - such as reflective papers and simple objects - and manipulates light, colour and shadow to create compositions that blur the lines between sculpture, painting and photography, evoking a sense of magical alchemy in the final images. WEGNER is an established Australian contemporary photo-media artist based in Melbourne whose innovative photographic practice explores staged still life and visual abstraction.

'Friends of the Drill Hall Gallery' (ANU, Canberra) will be visiting 'Blairgowrie' next month. Taking place on Saturday 24 October, 1:30–4:30pm visitors will be treated to a behind the scenes look at Imants' artistic practice and enjoy the property's beautiful gardens.

'Blairgowrie' has been Imants and Jennifer Slatyer's family home for almost thirty years, following their relocation from Sydney. The heritage style garden has been lovingly improved and tended to by Jenny over the decades, and the site-specific studio, designed by architects Sarah and Paul Lucas of Cradle Design (completed in 2013), is a practical yet striking building.

UNCANNY WAYFINDERS continues the central premise that art can act as a form of navigation. Here, the colour red becomes a wayfinding device, something through which we move between the warmth of memory, the heat of emotion and the strike of identity.

UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED includes artworks by PAT BRASSINGTON, The Estate of ROSE FARRELL & GEORGE PARKIN, LONG & STENT, DANI MARTI, MURRAY FREDERICKS, ROBERT OWEN, JACKY REDGATE, MARINA ROLFE, JULIE RRAP, NIKE SAVVAS, LYDIA WEGNER, GUAN WEI, CATHERINE WOO, JOHN YOUNG, and GEORGIA HARVEY.

MURRAY FREDERICKS' work, 'Salt 108' is a striking piece within the charged landscape of red on display in the gallery. Classified as a quintessential "Fredericks" artwork, this seminal and iconic piece is from his oeuvre and art practice which was shown in his incredible survey exhibition The Salt Lake at the Museum of Australian Photography in 2023. FREDERICKS' highly-acclaimed Salt series commenced in 2003 and has seen the artist complete more than 20 trips to Lake Eyre–Kati Thanda in South Australia, living alone for up to five weeks at a time.

GEORGIA BOSELEY | KOORIE HERITAGE TRUST X MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL

Step into a woven sculptural landscape where ancient clay and seasonal grasses unsettle linear time.

In Weaving the Everywhen, award-winning Central and Eastern Arrernte artist Georgia Boseley transforms the Koorie Heritage Trust gallery into an immersive sculptural landscape of scarred ceramic vessels and woven seasonal grasses.

Unsettling our linear understandings of time, the work draws on Indigenous deep history in order to imagine an Indigenous deep future. Extensive canopies of woven grasses, gathered from the artist’s travels and local landscape, hover above sculptural vessels inspired by the forms of Country, sheltering the works beneath layers of past, present and future knowledge.

Weaving the Everywhen was selected for the 2026 Deadly Fringe x KHT Exhibition Commission.

In the current exhibition, UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED, familiar works and ideas to be seen anew through a single, uncompromising hue. Together, the
exhibiting works demonstrate the extraordinary range of red - from the intimate
and contemplative to the visceral and luminous.

UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED includes artworks by PAT BRASSINGTON, The Estate of ROSE FARRELL & GEORGE PARKIN, LONG & STENT, DANI MARTI, MURRAY FREDERICKS, ROBERT OWEN, JACKY REDGATE, MARINA ROLFE, JULIE RRAP, NIKE SAVVAS, LYDIA WEGNER, GUAN WEI, CATHERINE WOO, JOHN YOUNG, and GEORGIA HARVEY.

Red takes on a psychologically charged quality in the photo-media works of Pat Brassington, Murray Fredericks, Honey Long & Prue Stent, Julie Rrap and Lydia Wegner - each revealing many ways red can offer insight and reshape the heat of an image.

PAT BRASSINGTON's work, 'Mantle', combines a close-up human body with a delicate, surrealistic botanical form, creating an ambiguous relationship between flesh and nature. Soft, muted skin tones contrast with the vivid red background, while the distorted composition creates a dreamlike and slightly unsettling atmosphere.

JARRAD MARTYN is featured in the current issue of ART COLLECTOR MAGAZINE (OCT-DEC 2026). Across two double page spreads, the article, 'Thinking Time' by writer, editor and curator, Lara Chapman, sheds light on MARTYN's practice, processes and the inspiration he takes from his father's Antarctic photographs.

'Jarrad Martyn's paintings look how memories feel. They are hazy in some places, sharp in others. There are things in the images that don't quite seem to belong - a picture frame hanging mid-air in the Australian bush behind a man in a full-length coat and top hat, for example, or the carcass of a whale in a living room - leaving you wondering if they are real or imagined. Time periods, events and places overlap, merging on the canvas, collapsing into each other like portals.' - Lara Chapman, Art Collector Magazine.

UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED | GEORGIA HARVEY

Back by popular demand, Harvey returns to ARC ONE Gallery with a collection of enigmatic ceramic sculptures - figures that feel at once ancient and otherworldly. Amidst a sea of red, Harvey's creatures offer a striking moment of contrast.

Drawing on ritual objects, mythology and the idea that objects can hold traces of lives, histories and memories, Harvey’s hybrid forms invite us to look a little closer and perhaps recognise something familiar in the unfamiliar.

Her practice is also deeply rooted in her work as a conservator, where close attention to materials, histories and the stories objects carry informs her approach in the studio.

Set against the intensity of the exhibition’s red surroundings, Harvey’s ceramics seem to have risen from the embers themselves - ignited by the works around it.

NOW OPEN | UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED

Featured in our current group exhibition is Honey Long & Prue Stent's works Red Sip, Mouth Bud and their new glassworks Pistil I & Pistil II.

Long & Stent's underwater-based photo-media works show visceral, organic environments, where smooth, petal-like forms fold and intertwine. The works evoke the sensuality of the body through fleshy textures, curves, and intimate composition, blurring the boundaries between nature and the human form.

The artist duo's new luminous red glass sculptures explore the tension between symmetry and difference, with their bulbous, fluid shapes appearing to both lean towards and pull away from one another in a playful exchange.

UNCANNY WAYFINDERS: INTO RED is now on display until 7 November.
