Meet the Artists of BLAK PIXELS: April Phillips (April Phillips)

Introducing April Phillips, a Wiradjuri-Scottish woman of the Galari / Kalari peoples, living and working in regional Australia. In 2022 April was awarded the Women in Digital award for excellence, advocacy, innovation and social impact.

Her art practice is cemented in futurism and media arts; as lead artist / director working across moving images, illustration, 3D assets, AR research, and photogrammetry. April employs character design as a narrative tool to explore empathy, fun and form. Her use of vivid colour and unlikely digital processes celebrates the potential of computer art for a new world.

Her practice extends to analogue materials and processes including drawing, printmaking, ceramics and glass. As a founding member of the Friends with Computers collective, April works to playfully engage digital technologies as tools for her art making, with a focus on futurism, human intelligence and ethical methodologies.

Meet the Artists of BLAK PIXELS: Molly Hunt (Molly Hunt)

Introducing Molly Hunt, a Balanggarra and Yolŋu artist, illustrator, animator, and storyteller whose practice spans digital art, animation, comics, murals, and community-led creative projects.

Growing up in the Kimberley, Molly’s work is deeply influenced by Country, community and the stories and characters of remote Australia. Her colourful contemporary style explores identity, culture and everyday life, particularly through representations of First Nations women and young people.

Alongside her own practice, Molly works with young people across regional and remote communities through collaborative murals, digital art and storytelling workshops, with a strong focus on creating pathways into the creative industries.

Meet the Artists of BLAK PIXELS: ENOKi (ENOKi)

Introducing ENOKi (they/them), a proud Djaara, Yorta Yorta, Wemba Wemba and Gunai/Kurnai Multi-Media artist living and creating on Wurundjeri Country (Melbourne). Their practice explores Blakness and Queerness through vibrant colour inspired by Pop-Art and Native Flora.

ENOKi’s work includes the First People’s RISING art tram My Aunty Once Told Me (Routes 58 & 59), Apple’s 2023 World Pride Campaign, Red Bull’s 2024 Cliff Dive Tower and 2024’s Mob In Fashion’s Back In Blak runway carpet for Melbourne Fashion Festival.

👾 Blak Pixels is opening! 👾

Proudly presented as part of Melbourne Fringe 2026, ‘Blak Pixels’ is a colourful, playful and interactive exhibition bringing together six artists working across games, animation, illustration and screen-based media. Celebrating contemporary First Peoples digital art practice, Blak Pixels explores how Indigenous artists are shaping digital spaces through storytelling, experimentation and shared cultural expression.

It’s school holidays, so bring the kids, bring your friends and come get amongst the artworks.

randals dad is a community radio broadcaster, DJ, and event curator across the creative industries.

Based in Naarm/Melbourne, he catalogs a wide spectrum of sounds from breakbeat through to footwork, bass to baile– his sound often reflecting what’s being spun on Feel The Floor– a two-hour broadcast on Triple R/3RRR exploring the latest releases from across the electronic music scene, local and international.

There is no genre off limits when you’re tuning into the frequencies of a randals dad dance floor.

‘Living Well’ is a work originally presented as part of the Now and Never festival in 2023 commissioned by Experimenta. A dynamic large-scale text-based projectioned animation expressed through the artist’s visual language of symbols and design, influenced by her Boonwurrung heritage and culture. Featuring a performance from the Hiri Motuan people of Central Province, the traditional Lakatoi dance celebrates the rich history of trade and navigation—while sharing the cultural significance and stories behind the performance.

Namila Bio:
Namila Benson is an accomplished Tolai PNG/Melanesian arts journalist, senior producer, broadcaster and writer who began her career in media and the arts more than three decades ago. Her passion for PNG and broader Pacific Islander representation in the arts, whilst critiquing western perspectives of Oceania stories, continues to be a strong focus within her career.

Exhibiting artist Kirsten Garner Lyttle will share insights into the research and photographic processes behind the exhibition, exploring the historical representation of Māori through photography, archives and nineteenth-century exhibition culture.
