Geelong Sports Museum explores the origins of sport in the region, recognises the game changers and celebrates Geelong’s rich sporting community.

100 years ago today, thousands gathered at Kardinia Park for a charity sports carnival. The event featured motorcycle races around a banked oval track, creating one of the venue’s most memorable early motorsport moments.

Speeds at Kardinia Park were around 70 - 80km/h and straights were non-existent - the track was almost one continuous turn.

This image shows Billy Pilgrim, a three-time dirt track Geelong Champion.

A century later, the spirit of speed and competition is still alive in Geelong. We can’t wait to welcome riders back when the AUSX Open (AUSX SUPERCROSS) roars into town in just a few weeks 🔥

The Cats are flying in the AFLW 🔥

Long before today’s stars pulled on the blue and white hoops, Audrey Cole captained Geelong’s women’s football team in 1954.

As Geelong Cats Women’s put together a fantastic season, it’s worth remembering the trailblazers who helped make it possible.

From Leopold to the Super Bowl, Ben Graham forged a path few Australians had ever imagined. With Ben appearing on The Front Bar tonight and the NFL spotlight shining on Melbourne this week, we’ve dug into the archives to revisit the remarkable journey of the original Aussie NFL trailblazer.

Geelong Sports Museum is proud to hold a small collection of Ben Graham artefacts, including his New York Jets helmet and jersey.

New exhibition open now! 🐎

One of Australia’s greatest sporting stories began in Geelong.

Silks, Studs and Stories: Briseis, St Albans and the Wilson Legacy celebrates 150 years since Briseis became the first horse to win the Victoria Derby, Melbourne Cup and VRC Oaks in a single week.

Developed by Victoria Racing Club and Australian Racing Museum exclusively for Geelong Sports Museum, the exhibition explores the legendary mare, the Wilson family dynasty and the famous St Albans Stud that helped shape Australian racing history.

The last time Geelong Cats and Carlton Football Club met in a final, these photographs were captured on film. Thirty years later, the rivalry returns to September.
