Memento 26: Still

Marlene Kranz:

Marlene Kranz is a multimedia artist based in Darwin. She had an interesting 12 months navigating a construction site and setting up her outdoor studio space under the watchful gaze of the local bird population. She has the distinct impression that sharing her art environments was never really her choice and is now forever removing bird droppings from her very colourful surfaces. Her contribution to this year’s Memento26; Still is the outcome of painting among her feathery companions, and she hopes some of her delight is visible to the viewer.

Marita Albers

I am a self-taught artist who has been exhibiting my paintings in the NT for over 20 years, and playing around with colour and story for many years more. Though not particularly skilled at stillness myself, for this exhibition I've focussed on still life artworks, and some of the components of still lifes. As well as a few things I 'still' seem to be painting again and again... x

Linda Joy: Linda Joy Artist

Linda Joy is a practicing visual artist directly influenced by the unique life and culture of the Top End. Her work is predominately landscapes that hover between a traditional and modern representation, with a focus on the integrity and fragility of country. Linda’s artistic journey is underpinned by her visual journals where she documents observations, compositional field notes and studies. In the studio she works directly from these drawings and notes onto prepared linen, canvas or paper with inks and washes. Her work has been exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions, and she has been the recipient of several art awards. Currently Linda is working on small studies developed from her journals for this annual miniature workLinda Joy is a practicing visual artist directly influenced by the unique life and culture of the Top End. Kristen ‘Chiggy’ Johnson

Chiggy's Place - artist, graphic designer

Chiggy creates work with bold colour and semi-abstract imagery. Her inspiration is mostly the natural environment she lives within. This exhibition uses the theme ‘Still’ as a pathway to explore the emotion around the world we live in today. It really quickly became an impossible task, she couldn’t paint in bright colour when her body felt so stressed about the reality of the world. So remembering the most important things to keep us together, in this kind of political and humanitarian climate is community, connection and kindness. She has attempted to create mindful, colourful and happy feeling images the way she knows best.

Still connected, Still happy, Still caring.

Kate Fernyhough has lived in Darwin for over 30 years. Her work is inspired by life in the tropics and the domestic sphere. In recent years she has focused on painting in acrylics on a small scale, also enjoying printmaking and mixed media. Memento 26: Still

Ingrid Gersmanis:

For this exhibition I have chosen to focus on “Stills From Life”, snapshots of different lives, scenes, perspectives and personalities that could exist in this world or in my imaginary perception of life. I have used mostly found objects and recycled materials to build these scenarios. Clay and driftwood are other favourite mediums used in some pieces.

⭐ For hire to community groups, artist groups & individual artists. Our exhibition program strives to be inclusive of all artists, including people of all communities, cultures, abilities, ages, sexuality, and faiths. First Nations artists are encouraged to apply.

🔥 Exhibition program runs from March – November annually, each exhibition runs for 12 exhibiting days over a 3 week period.

🤑 Hire costs: $350 gallery fee + $100 bond. Commission: 30% on all gallery sales (*Optional discounted commission of 25%)

📯 Call out closes: Wednesday 2 December 2026, midnight

Memento26: Still

The Memento Art Collective are back! In an increasingly frenetically paced, tumultuous world choosing stillness is an act of rebellion. “Still” invokes notions of contemplation, resilience and resistance. Fragility // Sea Sponge, ink on Saunders Waterford paper

From freshwater to saltwater ecosystems, Shannon's exhibition offers little glimpses of these natural treasures. It's beautiful to see her playing with scale of what is familiar and what can be held in ones hand. In this larger painting, all the intricate details and structures in its form are heightened jumping off the page.

Field Notes of the NT celebrates the natural environments and biodiversity of the Northern Territory. Drawn from quiet moments exploring bushland, wetlands, coastal rock pools and suburban streets, these works reflect the seasonality of life in the Top End and the wonder found in everyday encounters with nature.
