HOW YOUR ARTWORK TRAVELS.

Every painting we send out is packed here in Darwin, by us.

Acid-free tissue, a rigid flat box or a carefully rolled tube depending on the work, and enough padding that nothing moves in transit. We reuse outer packaging where we can. When your order arrives it is exactly as it left us — signed by the artist, with its gallery certificate of authenticity, and ready to hang.

For anything large or particularly precious we will always reach out before shipping to talk through the best option. Every order is sent with tracking.

SAME MARKS. DIFFERENT SURFACE.

Before the paintings, there were the tracks.

A goanna crossing the sand leaves a clear story behind it: four splayed feet and the long line of its tail dragging between them. Aboriginal people read these marks the way others read words: direction, speed, weight, time.

Look at Calvin Martin Jungarrayi's Goanna Dreaming and you will find the same feet and the same winding body, moved from sand to canvas. The circles are the sites the goanna travels between.

Look closely at the next dot painting you see. The tracks are there.

Tjoritja: the West MacDonnell Ranges. Ancient ridgelines, ochre rock, and a silence that goes back further than memory.

Makinti Napanangka

Some artists you collect. Makinti is one you hold onto.

Born around Karrkurritinytja (Lake MacDonald) in the Western Desert, Makinti was a Pintupi woman who began painting later in life at Kintore and went on to become one of the most sought after names in Australian art. Her work now sits in major public collections across the country.

Her subject was Kungka Kutjarra, the Two Women Dreaming, and the hair string skirts worn by women in ceremony at the rockhole site of Lupulnga. She painted it with a loaded brush and long sweeping lines, building layer on layer until the whole canvas moves. Nobody else painted quite like her.

Every work we offer by Makinti is signed by the artist and sold with our gallery certificate of authenticity.

THE PETYARRE WOMEN
Same Country. Four different painters.

Anna, Jeannie, Rosemary and Violet Petyarre are all Anmatyerre women from the Utopia region, connected by Country and by Law. Each paints a range of Dreamings, and put side by side, their works show how differently each woman carries her story onto the canvas.

Top left: Anna Petyarre's Awelye, the body paint designs worn by women for ceremony, tied to Law, Country and identity. Bold circles, fine dotting and linework build up the surface.

Top right: Jeannie Petyarre's Bush Leaves, thousands of flowing strokes sweeping out from the centre.

Bottom left: Rosemary Petyarre's Yam Leaf, fine looping lines spreading across the whole canvas like leaves opening out.

Bottom right: Violet Petyarre's Mountain Devil Lizard (Arnkerrthe), rows of arcs marking the lizard's tracks and the patterns on its body.

Kathleen Petyarre

Kathleen Petyarre is one of the most celebrated artists we hold. She is Anmatyerre, from Atnangkere in the Utopia region, and her Mountain Devil Lizard Dreaming paintings are immediately recognisable, finely worked dots building up across the canvas into a surface that seems to shift as you look at it. The colour is always precise.

The detail is extraordinary. Each painting is signed by Kathleen and sold with our gallery certificate of authenticity.

Ningura Napurrula was Pintupi, from Kintore and Kiwirrkurra,deep Western Desert country. Her paintings carry the Women's Dreaming stories of that country: intricate, layered compositions that encode ceremony, law and landscape in a visual language entirely her own. Internationally recognised, with work held in the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris and on an Australian postage stamp.
