Paper Skin, Stone Soul

An exhibition bringing together works by Bikash Bhattacharjee, Jogen Chowdhury, Kishen Khanna, Ram Kumar, Badri Narayan, Ganesh Pyne, K.G. Subramanyan, Suhas Roy and Thota Vaikuntam.

Exploring the human body as a site of memory, myth, and psychological depth, the exhibition unfolds through layered, expressive, and deeply introspective works. Navigating the space between fragility and permanence, these practices reveal a quiet tension between vulnerability and inner resilience—offering a contemplative meditation on the human condition.

Now on view at 1X1 Art Gallery

1X1 Art Gallery is pleased to present our participation in Déjà Vu, a multi-gallery exhibition at Concrete, conceptualised by Alserkal.

Bringing together 50+ artists from 20 of the UAE’s leading contemporary galleries, the exhibition explores repetition, memory glitches, historical misalignment, and the slippages of language- drawing inspiration from Raed Yassin’s Déjà Vu (2016).

On view from 25 April- 8 May 2026, at Concrete, Alserkal Avenue.

: Earlier this month, during calmer and brighter days, a member of the 1X1 team spent time with Chittrovanu Mazumdar in his Kolkata studio in India.

Surrounded by paint, process, and the stillness from which his works emerge... and move to his canvas!

On view now at 1X1, Dilip Choubisa's "Dual Dialogues A & B" (2025) sets two works in quiet conversation with one another. Rendered in dry pastel and graphite on canvas, the pieces hold a tension between mark and absence, between what is drawn and what is withheld.

Last few days to see the works on view as part of our group show 'The Cage Went in Search of a Bird,' open daily from 10 AM to 7 PM at 1X1 Art Gallery, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai.

A selection of works by artist Chittrovanu Mazumdar is currently on view as part of our ongoing exhibition ‘The Cage Went in Search of a Bird.’

Created in 2013, these works move between drawing and collag combining delicate mark-making with layered materials including archival digital prints, crushed paper and acrylic. Together, they reflect Mazumdar’s distinctive visual language that oscillates between abstraction and material experimentation.

We are open to visitors (Monday-Saturday) from 10 AM to 7 PM at Alserkal Avenue.

Parul Sharma's () fragile paper cut-outs in Mind Map (2021) arrange themselves like punctuation marks and characters, forming sub-urban constellations out of simple geometric shapes. The work captures journeys within "lived spaces" and moments caught in transit in the everyday life of the city.

Parul's practice moves between drawing, sculpture, and installation, often using delicate materials to trace the quiet rhythms of urban experience.

'Mind Map' is on view as part of our ongoing exhibition 'The Cage Went in Search of a Bird', open to visitors daily from 10 AM to 7 PM at Alserkal Avenue.

In our ongoing group show, we present Nida Bangash’s () Bol (Speak) (2025), a collection of art books housed in vividly coloured paper boxes and gilded with metal leaf. Drawing from Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s iconic poem 'Bol', the accordion-form work rises like a bird in flight yet remains grounded in the home, exploring the tensions between freedom, belonging and domestic space.

Working across drawing, print, installation and book form, Bangash’s practice reflects on intimacy, memory and the quiet structures that shape everyday life, lingering between enclosure and release, voice and silence.

'The Cage Went in Search of a Bird' is now open to visitors from 10 AM to 7 PM at Alserkal Avenue till 31st March
