An 18th-century Agra Jail carpet, immersed in imperial indigo and framed in burnished gold and deep crimson.

Hand-knotted in fine wool and coloured with natural vegetable dyes, its disciplined lattice of palmettes and vine scrolls reflects the architectural precision of Mughal design. Woven within the confines of colonial Agra, yet laid in royal halls, such carpets signified cultivated authority and enduring refinement.
