WORLDART is pleased to present
๐๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ, a solo exhibition of new work by Congolese-born, South African-based artist Tusevo Landu. The exhibition opens on Thursday, 1 October and runs until Thursday, 29 October 2026 at the galleryโs Long Street space in Cape Town.
โ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ ๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ explores how identity is shaped by place, family, cultural inheritance, and lived experience. The African masks across the figures draw from my Congolese heritage, reflecting the negotiation between inherited culture and life in South Africa. They obscure the face while revealing ancestry, memory, and identity.
Shade cloth connects the work to my motherโs labour as a tailor, where it was used to create temporary spaces at flea markets. Its porous structure-protecting while remaining open-becomes a metaphor for belonging, vulnerability, and transformation. Through layered oil paintings, I explore becoming as an ongoing process: shaped by what we inherit, what we experience, and what we carry forward.โ
