Long March to Freedom The Long March to Freedom is a ground breaking public attraction opening to the public in Cape Town at Century City on 15 October 2019.

The Long March to Freedom, a monumental procession of 100 life-size bronze statues and the largest exhibition of its kind anywhere in the world, opens to the public at Century City, Cape Town, on 15 November 2019. It represents the epic journey to freedom walked by iconic leaders through the lives of 100 individuals vividly created as life-size bronze statues. From the chiefs who led the Wars of Resistance in the 17th century to the activists, intellectuals and revolutionaries who finally brought freedom to the nation in 1994. The bronzes offer the visitor a unique and memorable experience, and a feeling that we as South Africans truly owe these heroes much appreciation.

🇿🇦 SALUTING OUR HEROES IN BLUE!👮🏾‍♂️👮🏾‍♀️🥁

We were honoured to host SAPS officers from the Free State today!

They are in Cape Town attending a management course at the SAPS Academy and stopped by for a cultural experience.

A marimba lesson turned into a powerful choir full of joy and true South African spirit! What a moment!

Thank you for your service to our country and our people, and for your beautiful energy! 🙏💙

Olive Schreiner - a voice that challenged the conventions of her time.
A writer, feminist and thinker, Schreiner used her words to question inequality, injustice and the limitations placed on women and society.

As we reflect on South Africa’s Long March to Freedom, her legacy reminds us that the journey towards equality is shaped not only by political leaders, but also by those who dare to imagine a different future.

Her words were part of the long conversation about freedom - and her legacy continues to speak to us today.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Janet Pillai as an Ambassador for Long March to Freedom.

This appointment recognises Janet’s commitment to South African heritage, tourism, culture and storytelling, and her passion for sharing our country’s remarkable history with both local and international audiences.

She will help us take the stories of the remarkable men and women who shaped South Africa’s journey towards freedom and democracy beyond the monument and into the wider tourism, cultural, media and educational landscape.

We are excited to have her join us on this journey of remembering, learning and sharing the stories that connect us all.
