This work was part of Jingze Du’s debut solo exhibition with us back in Spring 2020. Like everything else in that show, it sold! That was in May 2020 when no one knew if anyone would be looking at art, much less buying it. We do have a few available works by Du, so if you missed out then, you might have another chance now.

I call him “Big Caption” — an unidentified photographer whose bold, blocky lettering shows up again and again in my Southern California real photo postcard collection. Roughly 150 cards so far, all in this same distinctive hand, and still no name to put to the work. If you collect RPPCs, work in local history, or just have a hunch — I’d love to hear it.

This one puts him on the brutal, flat stretch of old Route 66 through the Mojave — nothing but a sign and a garage against open desert, the kind of nowhere that made you grateful for the next town’s gas pump.

Jingze Du had his first solo exhibition with us in Los Angeles in the spring of 2020. In subsequent years we presented his work in Miami, New York, Chicago, Copenhagen, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Shanghai and Seoul. Whenever possible, we acquired works for gallery inventory, of which this is one: Jingze Du. “Malibu,” 2024. Oil on canvas. 31 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches (80 x 70 cm). Inquires welcome.
