We couldnโt be more proud of ๐ฉ๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐ ( Bisa Butler ) and her upcoming survey ๐ป๐๐๐
๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐๐๐๐ opening at the ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐จ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐จ๐๐ ๐ด๐๐๐๐๐ ( Smithsonian ) this upcoming March ๐๐๐
Organized by Dalila Scruggs ( Dalila Scruggs ), the Augusta Savage Curator of African American Art, and co-curated with Liz Andrews, executive director of the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, in close collaboration with the artist and with support from Maria R. Eipert, curatorial assistant, the mid-career survey presents three decades of the artistโs radiant, large-scale quilts, from the 1990s to the present day.
A singular voice among a cadre of contemporary artists that engage figural representation to examine the beauty and complexity of Black experience, Bisaโs exhibition will display nearly forty of her quilts presented alongside works by her artistic influences and predecessors such as Faith Ringgold, Betye Saar, and others, drawn from Smithsonian collections. ย
A beautifully illustrated catalogue, published in association with Smithsonian Books, will be available at the time of the exhibition.
All congratulations to Bisa!! ๐๐ฅ๐
