The Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center is located in the 1830 Hugh White Homestead. In 1964, this Greek Revival mansion was scheduled for demolition. However, a group of citizens rallied to save the house and move it from Saratoga Avenue to its present location overlooking the Mohawk River and the old Champlain Canal. The Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center features a permanent exhibition about the history of Waterford, temporary exhibitions related to local history, a Victorian period room, and the George and Annabel O’Connor Library for Local History.

Last night our director Michael David Munsey attended a presentation by Phyllis Chapman on notorious women of the 19th Century at the Louis Miller Museum in Hoosick Falls. Great talk!

Phyllis is also the president of the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield. They have organized a special tour of the archaeological lab at Peebles Island on Friday October 23rd at 2:45 PM. The tour will be followed by a reception and lecture at the WHMCC. Tickets are $40 per person and include both the cost of the event and a year’s membership to the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield. Make sure to reserve your spot by emailing [email protected], because the tour is limited to 25 people.

On Friday October 23rd the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield will be touring the archaeological lab on Peebles Island and in the evening holding their annual reception for their members at the Waterford Historical Museum & Cultural Center. Attendees should buy tickets from the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield at the start of the event at the Peebles Island Visitor Center. Tickets cover the cost of the event and a year long membership to the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield. Members of the WHMCC and the public are invited to attend. Spots are limited so make sure to RSVP!

Yesterday our director Michael David Munsey took a day off yesterday to attend the Naval Heritage Weekend in Whitehall NY. He visited the Skenesborough Museum & Whitehall Urban Cultural Park Visitor Center and discovered that also have a Button & Blake hand pumper! Small world!
