The Waterford Historical Museum and Cultural Center is located in the 1830 Hugh White Homestead. In 1964, this Greek Revival mansion was scheduled for demolition. However, a group of citizens rallied to save the house and move it from Saratoga Avenue to its present location overlooking the Mohawk River and the old Champlain Canal. After work yesterday our director Michael David Munsey took a trip to Kingston to drop off a donation for the Hudson River Maritime Museum. They have a great exhibit on the American Revolution entitled “Tides of War.” Drop by the waterfront in Kingston and visit them if you can. We have our own Revolutionary War exhibit, “Waterford: Crossroads of Revolution,” on display until the end of the year, and an ongoing lecture series on early America in honor of the country’s 250th birthday 🇺🇸

Thank you to Marie Danielle Annette Williams for a great presentation on the French & Indian War in the Adirondacks last night! Over a dozen people showed up, including folks from Hartford CT and Western Mass, and a great time was had by all.

Our America 250 Lecture Series continues on Wednesday September 23rd at 6 PM. Thea Hotaling will be discussing Lafayette’s time in the Capital Region in 1824-1825.

On Sunday our director Michael David Munsey was privileged to attend the 249th commemoration of the Battle of Bennington. Thank you to the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site, the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield, and the Hoosick Township Historical Society for such a great event!

This battle which was fought in August 1777 in what is now Hoosick NY directly contributed to Burgoyne’s defeat at Saratoga in autumn 1777. Our current exhibit discusses the significant role that Waterford played in the Saratoga campaign, and the WHMCC is hosting a monthly lecture series in honor of America 250. Please stop by both Hoosick Falls and Waterford and say hello!
