Collar City Mushrooms Growing fresh mushrooms at Indian Ladder Farms

Collar City Mushrooms is one node in the great interconnected mycelial mat providing the substrate out of which is growing a movement that will impact the way we see the world. The fungi kingdom includes life forms that can offer nutrients, that include healthful medicinal properties, that can mycoremediate petroleum-based wastes, that enrich and renew soils, that can induce mind-altering spiritua

l growth, and that can be used as building materials, textiles, and biodegradable packaging. Understanding the mushroom and the way it interacts with its environment will help us save ourselves and the way we live.

What can you do with mushrooms?! Avery will discuss several cooking styles, but also talk about the various ways mushrooms are being used in other non-culinary fields! We’ll serve up a few mushroom snacks as well! PLEASE PRE-purchase tickets through eventbrite (link in bio) so we have a headcount for snack purposes. Show up at 5:30 to order drinks and food from the bar if you like! Program will be 6-7 in the ILFC&B tasting room (park in lot A).

Pink oysters (Pleurotus djamor) are such a beautiful mushroom to grow! Absolutely stunning. But boy what a short shelf life! From stiff petals to puddles of soppy stink in just a few days! These mushrooms are great for making breaded and fried shrooms though! (Think chicken and waffles). We’re almost done growing them for the season… this weekend’s market may be the last for us having them this year!

2 more ways to join us amongst the mushrooms in August! This Friday up at the Adirondack Experience chef Matt Olley will be crafting a delicious meal served on the balcony porch over looking blue mountain lake! Our team will be setting up a fully immersive mushroom experience! Next Thursday ILFC&B (August 27th) Avery will be introducing Myco-curious guests to the myriad different ways mushrooms are being used, from food, to building materials! Links for tickets to both events are in our bio!

Old man appreciation post! Strobilomyces strobilaceus is such a delight to find! These sneaky shrooms hide so easy! We’ve never found more than 1 or 2 at a time! Taking 7 out of the woods while leaving several small growing buttons was such a treat! These delicious earthy boletes are so vibrantly black! Always thankful for discovering them when we do!
