A New Chapter Begins for the Texas Rangers Division.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is proud to announce Jason Bobo as the new Chief of the Texas Rangers Division (TRD), succeeding former Chief Scotty Shiver, effective Sept. 1. 2026. Jason Bobo brings more than two decades of investigative and law enforcement experience to this new role, including more than 15 years as a Texas Ranger.

He succeeds Chief Scotty Shiver, who is retiring after 31 years of dedicated service to the DPS. During his career, he served in numerous leadership roles before becoming Chief of the Texas Rangers in 2024.

Ranger Major Kip Westmoreland will now become Ranger Assistant Chief. Westmoreland most recently served as Major in DPS’ Southeast Texas Region.

Please congratulate Chief Bobo and Assistant Chief Westmoreland and thank Chief Scotty Shiver for his years of dedicated service to the people of Texas.

Celebrate the rich history of the Texas Rangers at the Hall of Fame Dinner on August 29 at the John Knox Center. This special evening features a keynote address by James Holland, a silent auction, and a celebration of centuries of service.

Here's a look at the Riverwalk upgrades. The retaining wall has been set into the ground and riverbed. The pathway will be elevated to reduce flooding for pedestrians. Lots of native plants will line the path. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2027/early 2028.

Retired Texas Ranger Ralph Jackson Wadsworth Sr., 93 years of age, passed away this morning.

Ralph was born 10-30-1932 in Ellis County near Midlothian, TX. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 and became an MP. He married the love of his life, Peggy, in 1954. He attended the 24th recruit class by entering into the service of the Texas Department of Public Safety on 01-04-1956 and was later assigned to the Texas Highway Patrol in Brenham. He served there for 3 1/2 years and transferred to Mesquite in 1959. After 18 years, Ralph promoted into the Texas Rangers on 01-01-1977, assigned to Company "A" in Houston. Ralph transferred to Company "B" in March 1978. After serving the citizens of the State of Texas for 29 years, Ralph retired in 1985.
