Mayborn Museum Complex The Mayborn Museum Complex inspires Central Texans to learn and grow.

Located on the Baylor University campus, the Mayborn Museum Complex features a natural science and cultural history museum focusing on Central Texas with walk-in dioramas including one on the Waco Mammoth Site. In addition to the natural history exhibits, there is a multi-floor discovery center that encourages hands-on learning for all ages as well as a Historic Village. The nine wood frame buildings that comprise the village, provide a glimpse into the past, bringing to life a community in the 1890s.

Texas was dinosaur country. Literally. 🦖🐾

A remarkable piece of Texas history is making its way to the Mayborn Museum: a dinosaur trackway preserved in limestone and generously gifted by a local ranch family for research, preservation, and future public engagement.
Located about 90 minutes from Waco, this extraordinary 4-by-18-meter trackway preserves footprints believed to belong to Acrocanthosaurus, a large carnivorous dinosaur that roamed North America during the Early Cretaceous.
These tracks tell a story that fossil bones alone cannot. They capture movement across a muddy ancient shoreline, offering clues about how dinosaurs moved through their environment and what Texas looked like more than 100 million years ago.
Each footprint is a moment frozen in time. And now, this remarkable piece of our region's deep past will help inspire curiosity for generations to come. 🦖

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Mayborn Museum with a day of music, performances, art, culture and community. Presented in partnership with the Hispanic Leaders’ Network, this free Community Day invites families to celebrate the creativity of local youth, learn from local artists and participate in the Mayborn’s annual Community Ofrenda.

A $300,000 investment in the future of the Mayborn. 🦇🦋🌼

The Mayborn Museum has received a $300,000 grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to advance the design of Naturally Texas: What Makes Land a Home, our next major natural history exhibit.

Visitors will experience a simulated bat emergence, feel the heat of a controlled burn in the Blackland Prairie and catch virtual fireflies while learning about the wild, diverse and resilient ecosystem we call home. Through the Mayborn’s extensive collections and immersive experiences, Naturally Texas will give families a new way to explore the ecology of Central Texas—up close.

This $300,000 grant gets us one step closer. Now, we’re working to make the full vision a reality.
