Even before the first drops hit the ground, you can often smell it in the air—the scent of rain as a storm rolls in. But do you know what scientists call it?

Head over to the Hand Lens, where you can learn all about "petrichor" and what causes it. With warmer days arriving, this familiar scent becomes all the more common, a cocktail of organic ingredients that for many conjures images of spring sunshowers and the nostalgia of playing in the rain: https://fal.cn/3eH0r

Many thanks to the NYBG Gift Shop! We purchased a gift for my mother's birthday and it turned out to be defective. The shop staff was happy to do an exchange and walked me through the process of how to send the item back by mail. On Wednesday I dropped off the old item with UPS, and by Thursday afternoon the shop delivered the replacement item, gift wrapped, to my mother's home. It was amazingly fast and easy, and dealing with Margaret was such a pleasure. These little things matter, and we appreciate it!
