Free Concert at the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, Sunday, October 1st, 1-2:30 p.m.!
Come celebrate the release of harp trio THISTLE's Edgar Allan Poe-inpsired single "Spirits of the Dead" at none other than the historic Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, where Poe spent the final years of his life. The performance will also commemorate his death, which occurred on October 7th, 1849. Let's get in the mood for Fall and the spooky season!
Select poetry and stories of Edgar Allan Poe will be illustrated through original chamber music for harp, voice, cello, and percussion by THISTLE. "The Raven," "The Pit & the Pendulum," "Evening Star," and "Spirits of the Dead" are among the literature which inspired this afternoon's music, which will be released with other works on a full length album in January of 2024.
THISTLE's music has been described by Chamber Music America as "beautiful," "hypnotic," and "unique." Inspired by her studies and performance experience in multiple genres such as S. Indian classical, jazz, western classical, and folk, the music of singer and harpist Thistle Jemison is truly original.
Space is limited to 100. Chairs are limited to 20. Please bring a blanket to enjoy this outdoor concert. THISTLE will be playing under the covered porch, and guests will be seated on the lawn. You are welcome to tour the historic home before or after, but please arrange ahead of time with the museum.
Sponsored by a Chamber Music America Artists' Project Grant, funded by the generosity of the Howard Gillman Foundation.
