Logan Billingsley's Bronx.
Meet at the Gould Memorial Library, 1930 Sedgwick Avenue.
The tour will explore the Bronx of Logan Billingsley, a notorious bootlegger turned Bronx burgher and developer. He developed the Theodore Roosevelt Apartments on the Grand Concourse, billed at the time of their founding in 1923 as the largest apartment building in the world. In addition, Logan's brother, Sherman Billingsley, founded the Stork Club, one of the most prestigious nightclubs in the world during its heyday.
This hybrid bus and walking tour will explore Logan's Bronx properties in University Heights and on the Grand Concourse. Logan's son, Robert Billingsley, will discuss Logan's life and legacy during the tour, and talk about his efforts to ensure his father's history was preserved.
The tour is free and open to the public.

Sign up with Roger McCormack: [email protected] , 718-881-8900 ext. 107 or at the tour.

Free Concert at the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, Sunday, October 1st, 1-2:30 p.m.!
Come celebrate the release of harp trio THISTLE's Edgar Allan Poe-inpsired single "Spirits of the Dead" at none other than the historic Edgar Allan Poe Cottage, where Poe spent the final years of his life. The performance will also commemorate his death, which occurred on October 7th, 1849. Let's get in the mood for Fall and the spooky season!

Select poetry and stories of Edgar Allan Poe will be illustrated through original chamber music for harp, voice, cello, and percussion by THISTLE. "The Raven," "The Pit & the Pendulum," "Evening Star," and "Spirits of the Dead" are among the literature which inspired this afternoon's music, which will be released with other works on a full length album in January of 2024.

THISTLE's music has been described by Chamber Music America as "beautiful," "hypnotic," and "unique." Inspired by her studies and performance experience in multiple genres such as S. Indian classical, jazz, western classical, and folk, the music of singer and harpist Thistle Jemison is truly original.

Space is limited to 100. Chairs are limited to 20. Please bring a blanket to enjoy this outdoor concert. THISTLE will be playing under the covered porch, and guests will be seated on the lawn. You are welcome to tour the historic home before or after, but please arrange ahead of time with the museum.

Sponsored by a Chamber Music America Artists' Project Grant, funded by the generosity of the Howard Gillman Foundation.

Please click the link to reserve a free ticket, as space is limited.
