On Tuesday, we had an absolutely wonderful lecture on the life of Walter “Dirk” Gibbons and his incredible career in the Negro Leagues.

Celeste Gibbons-Peoples presented a lecture on her father, her uncle John Gibbons, and their experiences in the Negro Leagues. The memories she shared were even more meaningful knowing that we celebrated him on what would have been his 98th birthday.

This Tuesday, we were invited to join Hillsborough College at their Ybor Campus at their Unveiling Ceremony of the Historic Marker for the United Secret Orders Hall and La Benefica Española. We shared artifacts about not only the Hispanic heritage of Ybor but also the rich culture around Mutual Aid Societies and the benefits they offered their members like the medical clinic this building once was.

We are always so pleased to join community members in their efforts to share and honor the history and culture of Ybor!

This last Sunday, we were so excited to be invited to join the Tampa Bay Sun Professional Women's Football Club for their Noche Latina Hispanic Heritage Night! It was a wonderful event where we met with many Football fans, sharing the culture and history of Ybor and the Hispanic immigrants who helped to build it!

This last week has been a whirlwind of Mobile Museums honoring and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and the rich and wonderful Hispanic culture of Ybor and Tampa! We were invited to visit both USAA locations in Tampa for their Hispanic Heritage celebrations, and we have partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Tampa once again at the opening of their special exhibit at the Tampa Bay History Center. And that was just the start of our week! Keep an eye out for more posts about the other amazing events we went to recently!

We are grateful to share our history with a community that supports and celebrates its heritage.
