Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House

Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House is a home for celebration, preservation, and education of baseball in Tampa & Ybor

Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House honors and celebrates our community’s importance to baseball, and baseball’s importance to our community. Once open in 2016, the museum covers 135 years of baseball heritage with permanent and rotating exhibits focused on Ybor City, West Tampa, and Tampa baseball – involving local legends of the past and present. The museum is located in the former home

of Al Lopez – the first Major League player from Tampa, and first baseball Hall of Fame inductee from Tampa – and will soon be a home for celebrating many local past and present baseball greats. The mission of the Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House is to preserve and honor Tampa’s unique historic role in the game of baseball and provide community inspiration by celebrating local legends – past, present, and future. The Tampa Baseball Museum at the Al Lopez House was developed by the Ybor City Museum Society, a nonprofit organization that preserves and promotes Ybor City’s cultural heritage and supports the Ybor City Museum State Park.

We were so pleased to be invited back to bring our Mobile Museum to the Tampa Housing Authority Back to School Bash! We always love coming to kick off the school year by sharing the rich history of baseball in Tampa Bay with the kids and their parents!

Mobile Museums like this are only possible through the support we receive from our community, so we'd like to extend a big thank you to Hillsborough County, Florida Government, City of Tampa, and all our sponsors!

We had two great Mobile Museums in the last few weeks that we can't wait to share with you guys! The first was at Tampa’s Police Athletic League summer program. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Peter J Mulry Foundation, advocating for literacy and mentoring, while sharing Tampa’s rich baseball history.

Then we brought our Mobile Museum to Lift Academy in Clearwater. After sharing Tampa's baseball history, the students at Lift attended the Threshers game where they signed the National Anthem!

Opportunities to share our history and be a part of the community are only possible through the generous donations of our sponsors, so we thank them for helping us to go out and provide our Mobile Museums!

Some more on the Mobile Museums we did later in the month of June! We had a wonderful time at the West Tampa Chamber Luncheon talking about baseball in the Ybor and West Tampa areas and how they were so intertwined in history and today! We also were so excited to partner with the Bishop Museum once again to visit during one week of their Bishop Science Camp! We loved speaking with the kids about the aspects of S.T.E.A.M. in baseball!

June was a busy month for Mobile Museums! We went out to a number of wonderful events and shared Ybor's rich history with our community! We went to the Centro Asturiano's Bourbon, Baseball & Ci**rs event and brought information on the rich history of baseball and how it interconnected with the cigar industry! Not long after we went to the Tampa Housing Authority's at the 2026 HUD Strong Families Initiative event! Stayed tuned for more details about other Mobile Museums we did last month!
