🌟Congratulations to Christine Sun Kim and Rodney McMillian, two former Henry exhibiting artists, who have been awarded MacArthur Fellowship Genius Grants!!!

Both are groundbreaking artists, constantly pushing art in new directions. Their time at the Henry was no different.

In Christine Sun Kim: Ghosted Notes, her mural investigated “ghost notes,” musical symbols that indicate a slight sound without a specific pitch, almost like silence, but with rhythmic presence.

In Rodney McMillian: Neighbors, he used existing texts and domestic materials—such as house paint on thrifted fabrics and bedsheets, or “post-consumer objects,” as he calls them—to trace both the visible and invisible forces that shape civic life, particularly for the lives of African Americans.

Now on view at the Henry for the FIRST TIME, these works trace the print practice of one of America’s most influential Abstract Expressionists—from her early experiments to later innovations. You’ll also find Frankenthaler’s work in dialogue two incredible pieces from Analia Saban!
