The Next 100 Years, one meeting at a time! Our talented partners, @mithun_design & @sellen_construction, met with the ASUW Shell House Advisory Board to outline the renovation timeline and collect feedback. One of the activities was to write a postcard to a friend after visiting the renovated ASUW Shell House (June 2026!)—what would it say? Based on postcards from the future—the @asuwshellhouse will be easily accessible, a place to be inspired and inspire, filled with warm sun rays streaming in from the impressive hangar doors. Someone wrote about a wedding, a concert, a food truck. Others boasted about the cathedral-like feel—where the legacy, values and innovative spirit embodied by the 1936 Olympic Rowing Team and George Pocock were still felt. A place that supports transcultural teaching, learning, and community engagement in a manner that is open and welcoming to all. These are just snippets of what was shared. 📬💌 How about you—what would your postcard mention?

ASUW Shell House: The Next 100 Years

A Legend in Time

One of the most unique and important landmarks on Seattle’s historic Montlake Cut, the ASUW Shell House was built during the final years of WWI as a hangar for U.S. Navy seaplanes, and later repurposed as the main training base of the UW men’s crew that brought home the gold in the 1936 Olympics. The bones of the building have held heroes, athletes and artisans. It is time to bring the Shell House from the pages of history books back into campus life, events and community. We invite you to join us as we embark on our capital campaign to restore this campus and international treasure.
