Today we’re looking at ’s painting titled, “I Can’t Let You Go”.

Her practice explores ideas of identity and the subconscious through a maximalist approach. As she navigates these thoughts her work takes on a figurative form often featuring a single face repeated many times – suggesting a series of selves. Her fast-paced thoughts and emotions are shown in her use of impulsive and overlapping mark-making. These layers represent her own personal experience and in her words, ‘highlights self-expression through my deepest most inner thoughts’.

Gammell’s work remains rooted in exploring the female form and mind, while balancing personal issues with the pleasure and intrigue she finds through her unusual color choices and mark making.

Today we’re looking at ‘A Day of Night’, oil painting by Chris Leib.

JOIN US on FIRST THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6th for a reception from 5-7pm and enjoy wine and pizza from
our friends at Oxbow!

Chris Leib’s quizzical, hyper-surreal astronauts are both enchanting and mysterious and his technical ability as a painter is most impressive. Leib has exhibited his artwork across the United States, as well as in Germany, France, Denmark and Australia. A classically trained painter, Leib has spent over a decade applying renaissance techniques to subject matter outside traditional boundaries. Despite their dark tones, his subjects are characterized by humor and an exploration of heroic imagery.

‘Psychic’
20in x 16in oil on canvas

Having been brought up in a picture-book perfect environment where any disorder was a catastrophe, the artist has grown, in his own words, “suspicious of beauty, of value and of desire.” His paintings are an attempt to reconcile his most immediate surroundings. A backyard fruit tree turns into an “overworked, overproducing glitzy starlet, with perfect, supple fruit that should be on the cover of a cosmetic package.” It begs the question: What beauty can I trust?
