In April, Claudia Rilling returns to Woodward Contemporary for Our Painted History, a four-day figurative painting workshop built around working from your own family photographs.

But this isn't about copying a photograph.

Claudia will show you how to look at the image differently: how to simplify complex forms, strengthen composition and proportion, work with color, and make choices that bring your own artistic voice into the painting.

You bring the photograph.

Claudia helps you discover the painting inside it.

👀 We love seeing Woodward through someone else’s eyes.

Ava McCahill - a senior at Point Loma High School - recently spent some time with us capturing video around the gallery and studios. She came with a camera, a curious eye, and a fresh perspective on what happens inside these walls.

Ava is also the niece of Robert Dyer, a private studio artist and instructor, so she already has a pretty great connection to the art world. But getting to see Woodward Contemporary from behind the scenes gave her a chance to experience the artists, studios, gallery, and creative energy for herself.

She captured a LOT. And honestly, we love seeing what caught her eye 🎥🎨
