As a Jewish child during World War II, Henri Kagan survived in hiding with his family, using assumed names in southern France. Today, at 95, he was awarded the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry alongside Kenso Soai.

At RUTH, we preserve survivors’ stories, including the lives they built after the Holocaust. Kagan’s story reminds us that those lives encompass decades of work, discovery, family, and contributions to the world.

We congratulate Henri Kagan and honor the child who had to hide his name, whose name today receives international recognition.

Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai have won the Nobel Prize in chemistry for their work on mirror images in chemical molecules.
