In May of 1960, The Whaley House:
A) Burned to the ground and was reconstructed
B) Was moved from its original site in Flint, MI
C) Opened as a museum
D) Was still being used as a residence
E) Opened as a bed-and-breakfast
Answer: C) Opened as a museum. Under the management and care of the Historical Shrine Foundation, The Whaley House Museum opened its doors to the public. The original curators, James and June Reading, took great care to research and interpret Whaley history. The Whaley House might not be standing today without the Readings’ dedication and passion for preservation. A funny side note regarding choice B: There is a Whaley Historic House Museum in Flint, MI. However, there is no relation between these Whaley families.
