YOUNG PIONEERS — DAY 3 & A WONDERFUL FINALE!

What a wonderful way to wrap up this year’s Young Pioneers program at Fort Klock!

Day 3 was filled with hands-on activities, traditional skills, and plenty of opportunities for our young participants to experience history in a whole new way.

Our Young Pioneers learned how to thresh wheat, discovering how grain was processed before modern machinery. They explored colonial baking techniques, learning how food was prepared using traditional methods. They also took part in militia training, spent time learning about colonial gardening, and got creative with tin stamping.

It was a full day of learning, discovery, teamwork, and fun — and a wonderful reminder that some of the best history lessons happen when you can roll up your sleeves and experience it firsthand!

We were fortunate to have such a wonderful group of children participate in this year’s program. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to learn made this year’s Young Pioneers truly special.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to every child and family who participated, to all of the talented individuals who came to share their knowledge and teach these traditional skills, and to every volunteer who helped make the program possible.

Your time, energy, and dedication are what make programs like Young Pioneers possible and help keep history alive for the next generation.

Thank you for making Young Pioneers 2026 such a memorable success!

YOUNG PIONEERS — DAY 2 AT FORT KLOCK!

The Young Pioneers are back for another exciting day of hands-on learning, exploration, and discovering what life was like in earlier times.

On Day 2 - Melanie Sawyer and Brian McCormack guided our young participants through a variety of fascinating lessons and practical skills. They learned about foraging and identifying useful plants, how to safely start a fire, and Indigenous cultures and traditions, gaining a deeper appreciation for the knowledge and skills that have been passed down through generations.

These hands-on experiences give our Young Pioneers the opportunity to do more than simply learn about history — they get to experience it!

From asking questions and trying new skills to exploring traditional knowledge and connecting with the past, Day 2 has been filled with learning, discovery, and plenty of fun.

We love watching these young historians get curious, get involved, and make memories while learning about the people, skills, and cultures that shaped our past.

Another great day of learning at Fort Klock!

Young Pioneers – Day 1 at Fort Klock
What a wonderful start to this year’s Young Pioneers program!
Our young explorers jumped right into the 18th-century experience with hands-on activities that brought history to life. They tried their hand at blacksmithing, spent time in the schoolhouse, learned the traditional methods of washing and drying clothes, sewed their own pouches, and even enjoyed a lively introduction to period dancing.

It was a day filled with curiosity, creativity, and plenty of smiles. We’re so proud of how eagerly these young pioneers embraced every activity!

Stay tuned for more updates as the adventure continues.
