Thank you to The Post-Star and Alex Portal for this wonderful front-page coverage of our "Remembering the Warren County Health Camp" reunion!
On October 2, WCHS gathered former campers, counselors, family, and friends at Gurney Lane, just steps from where the camp once stood, to share their memories. It was a truly powerful afternoon. There were laughs, a few tears, and a shared reminder of how deeply this place shaped so many lives.

This is the kind of work that makes our mission meaningful.

The Warren County Historical Society is proud to bring people together to share their stories and keep our local history alive, and with your support, we intend to keep creating opportunities like this for our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for our second annual
History Day: The Declaration of Independence, A 21st Century Perspective, presented with our partners SUNY Adirondack and the Warren County, NY 250th Commission.
Our sincere thanks to our speakers, WCHS Treasurer and historian John Berry and SUNY Adirondack faculty Jessica Best, Ph.D., Mark Dragoni, Ph.D., and Wendy Johnston, to our student panel, and to every guest who brought questions and perspective into the room.

Together, you made for a robust discussion.

The program offered an honest, factual assessment of what the Declaration's authors intended and of the document's impact on the climate we are living in today. Hearing from our student panel gave that conversation a sharp, honest edge. They spoke to how the history we have built upon, generation after generation, has compounded into the world their generation is inheriting now.
Their raw insights gave us pause to think about the legacy we are passing on: how we have shaped it, and what we can do to improve it.

Even uncomfortable truths have their place. Being challenged, and having our beliefs questioned and new perspectives added, is what deepens the conversation, keeps us united, and helps us move forward in living history together.

The second Monday in October has long been known as Columbus Day, a federal holiday since 1937. Today, it is also shared with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. New York first recognized it by governor’s proclamation in 2021, and proclamations and laws in many other states now observe it alongside Columbus Day, honoring the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, including the Mohawk and Mohican whose homelands include the place we now call Warren County.
