Based in Glens Falls, New York, North Country Arts is a non-profit cultural organization established in 1971 for artists, artisans and people interested in the arts. North Country Arts is a volunteer run membership arts organization whose mission is to provide opportunities, encourage and promote artists in the North Country. North Country Arts currently manages three galleries in the Lower Adirondack and Glens Falls area, providing our artist members with opportunities to show and sell work, as well as juried shows and other events.

Join North Country Arts this Friday, October 2, from 5–7 p.m. for the opening reception of Viviendo el Sueño, featuring the vibrant acrylic work of artist Miguel Cervantes.

Born in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico, Miguel’s love of the visual arts began in childhood, surrounded by the colors, traditions, markets, food, parades, and folklore of his community. After studying architecture at Benito Juárez University of Oaxaca, his artistic journey deepened through time spent working alongside artists Alejandro Santiago and Vicente Hernandez.

Today, Miguel’s paintings bring together culture, memory, movement, and emotion through layered color and expressive line. Insects, birds, horses, objects, geometric forms, and abstract figures emerge throughout his work—each carrying personal meaning and contributing to a visual language that is distinctly his own.

Since joining North Country Arts in 2024, Miguel has shared his work throughout our exhibitions, and we're thrilled to celebrate this collection with a solo exhibition at the Second Floor Gallery at City Hall.

The next exhibition from North Country Arts celebrates the perspectives, experiences, and creative voices that make each of us unique while bringing us together through art.

Drop-off for the exhibition is Saturday, September 26, from 12–3 PM at the gallery.

This is the last call to register for the Autumn show at North Country Arts' Mezzanine Gallery at The Queensbury Hotel. Submissions are due tomorrow!

Due to limited space, we are only able to accept 25 pieces of work total, and each piece must be 2D and ready to hang on the walls. Art must not exceed 24" in width or height.

The hanging fee for the space is $20 and one piece of art can be accepted per person.

Felting transforms loose wool fibers into a durable, textured material that can be shaped into everything from expressive works of art to beautiful three-dimensional forms. Using wool as her medium, Marjolaine will demonstrate how fibers can be layered, shaped, and worked together to create unique pieces full of color, texture, and dimension.

Her work has won awards at national craft shows and been featured in Fiber Art Now magazine and on PBS.

During the demonstration, you’ll get an up-close look at the felting process, learn about the materials and techniques involved, and see how an artist can take simple wool fibers and transform them into a finished work of art.

Whether you’re already familiar with fiber arts or have never tried felting before, this demonstration is a chance to discover a fascinating medium, meet a local artist, and experience the creative process in action.

Long before his famous Campbell’s Soup Cans and celebrity portraits became synonymous with Pop Art, Warhol developed a distinctive approach to drawing—one characterized by expressive lines, simplified forms, repetition, and an unmistakable sense of style.

During this live demonstration, JoAnne will explore Warhol’s approach to drawing and share techniques inspired by his work. Discover how seemingly simple lines and shapes can create bold, memorable images and learn more about the artistic process behind one of the most recognizable artists of the 20th century.

Whether you’re an experienced artist, just beginning to explore drawing, or simply curious about Warhol and his work, this demonstration offers an opportunity to look at his art from a new perspective and experiment with ideas you can bring into your own creative practice.

Join North Country Arts on Sunday, September 13, from 11 AM–12:30 PM for an artist demonstration with Sandra Jabaut, featuring the fascinating process of reductive charcoal drawing.

Sometimes called negative drawing, this technique turns the traditional drawing process on its head. Instead of beginning with a blank sheet of paper and adding shadows, the artist begins by covering the paper in charcoal—then gradually removes the darkness to reveal the light.

During the demonstration, Sandra will show how she creates a portrait by blending charcoal into an even tone, sketching the initial form, and using kneaded and pencil erasers to pull out highlights and build tonal variations. Charcoal is then added back in to deepen shadows, refine values, and bring the portrait to life.

Watch as light, shadow, depth, and detail emerge from a field of charcoal and learn how this unique process can be used to create expressive, dimensional portraits.
