Virginia Maksymowicz was born in 1952 in Brooklyn, NY and now lives in Philadelphia, PA. She received a B.A. in Fine Arts from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (1973) and an M.F.A. in Visual Arts from the University of California, San Diego (1977). She has exhibited her work at the Franklin Furnace, Alternative Museum, the Elizabeth Foundation and grey Gallery in New York City; the Mitchell Museum in Illinois; the Michener and Woodmere Museums in Pennsylvania; and in college, university and nonprofit galleries through the United States and abroad.
When asked about her passions, Maksymowicz said this;
"On the most basic level, I am obviously passionate about making art! Since receiving my MFA in 1977, I have maintained a consistent studio practice and exhibition record. I have worked at many support jobs in order to fund this passion: secretary, copy editor, writer and teacher. Now that I am 68, I am anxious to devote my time completely to resuming in-process projects and pursuing new directions in my work.
On a conceptual level, I have become passionate about exploring the metaphorical implications of the human body—especially the female body—placed in the service of structure and architectural ornamentation. I've been following a complex visual trail of architectural and figurative elements: caryatids, columns, canephorae, baskets of produce, Corinthian capitals, acanthus, bodies, bones and bread."

Lucia Garzón Is A Queer Colombian Italian American Artist Currently Living And Working In Philadelphia, PA. Born in 1996 Allentown, PA, they received their B.F.A. Printmaking, Tyler School Of Art, Philadelphia, PA (2018)
When asked about their passions, Garzón says this;
"I’m passionate about sharing stories about my family and how that connects to larger ideas of immigration, class, and labor. Exploring what it means to be an immigrant in this country can mean so many different things and I enjoy making work that reveals what that has looked like for my family and for me as an artist. My practice often consists of a lot of repetitive and technical hands-on work which directly relates to my families occupations as woodworkers, chefs, and janitors. It is important for me to make accessible work that expresses familial notions of love, struggle, and sacrifice." Check her out at www.luciagarzon.com

Introduction To the P.S. We Love Our Members Grant "In light of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the artist community, Phladelphia Sculptors created a new virtual opportunity, P.S. We Love Our Members, to help meet the needs of our members and provide additional visibility for their artwork. Philadelphia Sculptors will disburse one-time $1,000 grants to ten selected member artists whose dues are current.
Artists submitted works and statements that were reviewed by curators Jacintha Clark and Christine McDonald. Member artworks selected for P.S. We Love Our Members will be posted on our website and on our Instagram account.
This grant can be used for any purposes determined by the artist. In return, the selected artists must commit to being the subject of a video interview that PS will share through our website and social media. We want to support our members and show them we love them during this time. While sculpture is best seen in 3D we are flattening sculpture as we try to flatten the curve."
