Located just minutes from downtown at 2600 S. Cherokee Way, the Backstreet Art District is Palm Springs' vibrant creative hub and a hidden gem for contemporary art lovers. It functions as an intimate, collaborative community of working artist studios, independent galleries, and specialized art businesses.

Unlike traditional commercial galleries where artists are detached from the retail space, Backstreet features a unique layout: artists create their pieces in the back workspaces and display them directly in the front showrooms. Visitors can explore a diverse array of mediums—including paintings, ceramics, photography, mixed media, and jewelry—while directly meeting and interacting with local creators.

In the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month, I'd like to provide some background about my Luchadores Series.

My Luchadores Collection is deeply rooted in the vibrant landscapes of my childhood, inspired by the weekend tradition of attending Lucha Libre matches with my mother, grandmother, and brother. Beyond the spectacle, these works serve as a vital exploration of Mexican folklore and the enduring cultural impact of Luchadores.

This series marks a significant evolution in my practice, acting as a bridge between my established aesthetic and a newfound technical curiosity. In pieces like Hurricane Ramirez, I integrate the monarch butterfly—a symbol of my love for animals and a connection to Mexico—with the iconic masked figure. Through this work, I embraced the challenge of painting with cold wax and pastels for the first time, finding a new language of texture and light. I see this series as a defining "signature" of my career, and I look forward to continuing to push these concepts through new materials. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed creating them!
