Raynham Hall was for 200 years the home of the Townsends of Oyster Bay -- merchants, slave owners, Patriots, civic leaders. One of the sons of the family, Robert Townsend, posed as a Loyalist in Manhattan and relayed vital intelligence to George Washington, helping the Patriots win the Revolutionary War.

Another successful Culper Spy Day in the books! Thank you to everyone who came out for our exhibit opening and book launch for Revolutionary Oyster Bay: 275 Years at Raynham Hall Museum! Largely the work of Katie Cynkar, our Peggy N. and Roger G. Gerry Curatorial Fellow, the exhibit and catalog reflect the history of Raynham Hall–a place shaped by family life, global commerce, war, historic preservation, and ongoing scholarship. The catalog is available for purchase in our museum shop, and the exhibit will be open through March 28, 2027. Many thanks to Katie, the Raynham Hall staff and Board of Trustees, our colleagues at , and the many volunteers and visitors who celebrated with us!

Join us tomorrow as we celebrate the launch of our first catalog highlighting Raynham Hall Museum's collection and the opening of the corresponding exhibition, "Revolutionary Oyster Bay." Welcome remarks will be provided by Curatorial Fellow Katie Cynkar followed by a cocktail reception and exhibition viewing.

Tickets for this event are available through our website.

"Revolutionary Oyster Bay" will be on view from September 24, 2026, through March 28, 2027.

🌧️ Rain or shine, Revolutionary Revel is happening! 🌤️

Join us this Sunday, September 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for an afternoon of living history. Meet members of the Order of the Ancient and Honorable Huntington Militia, explore 18th-century crafts and enjoy live demonstrations of historic musical instruments—including violin, viola da gamba, and recorders.

Musket firings will take place weather permitting.

The event will go on, rain or shine—so come join us!

We are thrilled to share that we have just received the shipment of our first ever collections catalog, Revolutionary Oyster Bay: 275 Years at Raynham Hall Museum! Written by our Curatorial Fellow, Katie Cynkar, and our Director of Collections and Exhibitions, Jessica Pearl, this catalog reflects the history of Raynham Hall–a place shaped by family life, global commerce, war, historic preservation, and ongoing scholarship. The objects presented here are the material evidence of the people, events, and evolving interpretations that have defined the house for nearly three centuries. Congratulations to Katie and Jessica for this incredible accomplishment!

Enjoy a cocktail in the Victorian garden and celebrate the book launch and exhibition opening with us on September 23 at 5:30 pm! Tickets can be purchased through our website. The exhibition will be open through March 28, 2027.

On this day, we remember all those on 9/11 who answered the call, those who sacrificed, and the families and friends who continue to carry their memory.

Recently, we were honored to host a talk by Tom Mason on the making of his painting FDNY Night Tour. Inspired by the heroism of our first responders, the painting hangs in the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall’s Island, where each new recruit is greeted by the courage and determination of those who came before them.

The group portrait is influenced by Rembrandt’s The Night Watch, and while the painting honors the FDNY as a whole, it also includes symbolic details commemorating those who responded on September 11. Among them is a turnout coat bearing the name of Chaplain Mychal Judge, and the sign showing Engine Co. 343—the number of FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.
