Sagamore Hill National Historic site preserves the home and story of Theodore Roosevelt and his family on Long Island from 1885 until his death in 1919. The park offers historic house tours, exhibits on the life of Theodore Roosevelt and his family members. The park also preserves nearly 80 acres of the original farm and woodland including a nature trail and beach on Cold Spring Harbor. Our social

Happy Birthday NPS!

Although Theodore Roosevelt did not establish the National Park Service (NPS), the Antiquities Act of 1906 allowed the executive office to declare national monuments on federal lands. During his presidency TR dedicated 18 national monuments, almost all of which are now managed by NPS. (wow!)

By 1916 American interest in protecting history, culture, recreation, and the environment had boomed, leading to the establishment of the National Park Service on August 25th, 1916. On this day we celebrate 110 years of the National Park Service, with over 400 sites in all 50 states and 5 US territories and beyond that strive to maintain its original goal, "....to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations."

Join us for an interactive journey exploring what makes National Parks special. Learn how Sagamore Hill connects us to our history, nature, and community, and why preserving them benefits everyone!

August 23 & 28, 10:30 AM - Theodore Roosevelt: Conservation Superhero
What does it take to preserve a nation's greatest treasures? Learn about the Organic Act and discover how Theodore Roosevelt's vision of the Antiquities Act created a lasting legacy that continues to inspire us today.

August 22 & 30, 10:30 AM - Be an Animal Detective in Yor Own Backyard
Calling all animal loving kids! Learn about the fascinating native wildlife of Long Island! Learn how to be an animal detective by recognizing the signs of different neighborhood animals, and how to safely share a community with them!

Kids can earn their own Junior Ranger badge for participating! All programs will begin at 10:30 AM on their scheduled day. No reservations are required, these are free programs. Check our calendar for more information https://www.nps.gov/sahi/planyourvisit/calendar.htm

Due to the ongoing National Weather Service Extreme Heat Warning through Saturday, July 4th @ 9PM ET Sagamore Hill is shifting select 4th of July activities into the cooler, earlier part of the day and concluding the event at 2PM. Per National Park Service safety protocols, park buildings will close at 2PM. Event shuttle buses will operate through 4:30PM and park grounds will remain open through sunset. Please continue to monitor nps.gov/sahi for updates.

Please join us on Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m. for the unveiling of our new rocking chairs at Sagamore Hill. This event will take place on the front porch of the Theodore Roosevelt home.

These chairs are replicas of the historic rocking chairs used by the Roosevelt family.

A big thank you to for donating the new rocking chairs for everyone to enjoy.
