We are delighted to share that “24 by 20 (black on black #2),” 2019 by Carrie Yamaoka has entered the permanent collection of the Dallas Museum of Art

The work was acquired by the late Charles Dee Mitchell in 2021 and has now been formally accessioned into the DMA’s holdings as part of a significant gift from his estate – approved by the Committee on Collections and the Board of Trustees on May 7, 2026.

We’re honored to see Carrie’s work join the DMA’s collection, and to celebrate Dee Mitchell’s enduring commitment to supporting artists and public institutions. 🙏

Repost App • Maria Lassnig Foundation We cordially invite you to the presentation of the Maria Lassnig Prize tonight and the opening of Carrie Yamaoka’s first solo exhibition in Germany at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, which will take place on this occasion. carrieyamaoka Hamburger Kunsthalle

The Hamburger Kunsthalle is presenting the first solo exhibition in Germany devoted to the artist Carrie Yamaoka (b. 1957). The occasion for the show in the atrium of the Galerie der Gegenwart is the awarding of the Maria Lassnig Prize to the New York-based, multidisciplinary artist. Yamaoka’s interest in mutable materials and surfaces has given rise to works that often combine photography with text panels and reflective image supports. Chemical processes and fleeting transformations also play an important role in her work as she investigates the possibilities available for recording and documentation. Sometimes the artist revisits her earlier works after a few years and alters them, thus challenging the standard chronological development of an artistic oeuvre. The mirror-like surfaces of works that oscillate between painting, photography and sculpture cause space, light and viewers to intermingle in constantly changing perspectives and manifestations.

The works will be presented in the atrium of the Galerie der Gegenwart.

The opening and award ceremony will feature remarks by Carrie Yamaoka, Hans Ulrich Obrist, Elisabeth Lebovici, Prof. Peter Pakesch, and Prof. Dr. Alexander Klar. Hans Ulrich Obrist Alexander Klar

E’wao Kagoshima on view!

Kagoshima’s collages from the early 1980s carry the energy of his years living in NYC’s West Village, and a growing fascination with American popular culture seen in magazines. They became his source material, there is imagery of male bodies, industrial elements, and bold graphics worked into compositions.

What emerges is a complex dialogue between figuration, found material, and the visual culture surrounding him.

Open through July 17th in the Viewing Room!

SAVE THE DATE: On The Air, an exhibition organized by Darling Green, opens June 13 at Ulterior Gallery.

On The Air is a show about spoken words becoming artworks, and artworks that are only fully realized when they appear in public. It draws parallels between broadcasting, dictation, and publication as ways of making the inner outer, focusing on how a thing can be spoken into being, and strategies of immediacy that facilitate a work’s exit from the studio and into the world. The works in this show are itinerant artworks that happen to stop here for a moment, before they continue their journey, being passed hand to hand, or worn around town, or even stepped on in the street.

Featuring JJJJJerome Ellis, Kima / Lauren Kima Graycar, Lily Greenham & Andrew Walsh-Lister, Yusuf Hassan / BlackMass Publishing, Institute for the Study of the Urtext, Craig Leonard, Hanne Lippard, Glen Rubsamen & Rita McBride, Rick Myers, Aki Onda, and Rujuta Rao.

During the exhibition, Ulterior Gallery will mount a rotating presentation of artworks by gallery artists in the viewing room, connecting with On The Air.
